Kwame Brown Discussion

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Mon Jan 17, 2011 2:01 am

He's been a really nice surprise so far this season. Here's an Observer piece on him:

I love the signing and he's been a revelation, but we need to upgrade at that position. He's perfect as a backup which makes Nazr expendable. Is it me or does he look slimmer than years past?

one of, if not the, best bargains on the roster.

he has embraced his role, knows his limits and doesnt try to be a player he is not.

certainly not the guy you want as your starting center, but definitely a quality backup at the price we have him.

I really wasn't expecting anything close to what he's providing so far, but I still think we need a new starting center.

Kwame is demonstrating high value as a defensive big and rebounder. His recent offense is giving me visions of Okafor & Chandler productivity. In a perfect world we'll find a 5 one day who is a force on both sides of the basketball, but how many of those are there in the NBA anymore? Give me Kwame at this rate with consistency and I'll support a new multi-year value contract to stay around.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Dollar for Dollar he he may be the 2nd best player on the roster behind DJ and his rookie deal. Okafor is a good comparison, IMO he gives about 75% of the production of Emeka at about 5% of the cost.

Got to ask e4 - was 75% just a guess, or did you actually do the math? Because it's pretty much bang on 75% (per 36 - which is a fair comparison seeing as though Okafor actually plays about 11 more mpg than Kwame)!!

I agree with everyone here. He's a fantastic back up C who provides huslte and energy who would ideally play behind a more offensive starting C. He's pretty basketball smart too. He finds good position and knows where to be - which is how he gets those easy baseline dunks.

His poor hands and poor FT shooting will always be a draw back, but for the 700k he costs us this year? Id have him over Okafor, Chandler and Ratliff.

I agree I just want him to play mainly with the starters as he benefits from their passes under the basket (he surely knows where he should be very well), I kind of think he would be less productive with players fro mthe bench (still could rebound). I much prefer his scoring punch (yes I said it) in the first minutes of the game possibly causing some foul trouble for opposing big men, I would continue to do that even with clearly better center on our roster and then bring the better center against their second unit. We kind of doing it right now with Nazr coming off the bench but upgrade at C position would be great. No matter who we would get I would like to keep (and if he keeps playing like that possibly lock) Kwame, I doubt he would command too much money.

I've been fighting for Kwame for years. He didnt' live up to being the #1 overall pick by any means, but he is very servicable. He has had to deal with that his whole career. He has had to deal with alot of injuries since his last year with the Lakers. The Pistons coaches/mgmt are idiots. They did not use him appropriately or at all.

Lets see if this holds up, it'll take alot more than a good streak of 10 games to have the #1 overall draft pick bust people to even give him a chance again.
Kwame Brown is servicable, get over it.

However, the article's writer is even an idiot. Kwame HAS averaged double figures in a season before, 03-04. He hasn't though averaged double figures as a center. In 03-04 he was playing mostly PF.
Kwame Brown is servicable, get over it.

I've always had a soft spot for Kwame. I believe his career would have been way better if he hadn't been drafted by Michael Jordan as the #1 pick and through out his career been labeled as a bust. Love the statline he has right now. 15+15 and 5/5 free throws.

Great game for Kwame. He is actually proving to be worth the money this season.
