Looks like its a done deal for sure now.
The new area is already coming together quite nicely my concern is where are people going to park??
The committee looked at six possible downtown sites, but they aren't listed in the report, for fear of prompting land speculation. All six had plenty of parking within a 10-minute walk, committee chair Lyle Best told The Journal's editorial board after the mayor's speech.

"That's a very critical point, and one I have to defend almost every day," Best said. "We already have a large and significant inventory of parking spots (downtown) that are not typically used after 5 o'clock."
Oilers tickets increasingly go to corporations, he added, and many businessmen will be able to walk to the game from their downtown offices.
http://www.uofaweb.ualberta.ca/govrel/news.cfm?story=66448While parking does have to be considered a potential obstacle, it seems that those involved in the planning stages feel Downtown has enough parking to support the arena in of itself. It's certainly a valid concern, but even then, there are always alternative methods of transportation that don't involve finding parking (bus travel, LRT).
