The Toronto Blue Jays have avoided arbitration with shortstop Yunel Escobar.

The 28-year old agreed to a one-year, $2.9 million deal with the club on Tuesday.

Escobar, who was traded by the Atlanta Braves to Toronto on July 13, 2010, hit .275 in 60 games with the Jays.

Overall in 2010, the four-year veteran in the Major Leagues posted a .256 average with a .337 on-base percentage.

Escobar is a lifetime .289 hitter, with a .364 on-base percentage, including 33 home runs and 199 RBI.

should have taken some options on him, i believe that working with dmurph we might see significant improvements to his power numbers. hopefully it comes at no cost to his obp.

Morrow's done for $2.3 million. Camp is done.

It's coming down to Bautista and frasor and the deadline has passed - theoretically.

So it is looking like:

Morrow: $2.3 million
Escobar: $2.9 million
Davis: $5.25 million over two years with a 3rd year team option (wow, AA must really like him).
Janssen: $1.09 million
Camp: $2.25 million
Litsch: $830,000
Villanueva: $1.4 million

No word on Bautista or Frasor yet.

That doesn't really play into it...Davis made $1.35m as a Super 2 player last year, and thus was going to get a raise to a shade over $2m this year, and more than that next simply because of the way the arbitration system works.

I'm sure AA didn't pay RD any more than he had to. I'm just also now sure RD is in the lineup.

I guess I never knew what Davis was up for, but obviously AA did when he aquired him...

Edit: And now the Podsednik rumours make me totally unsure.... lol.

i don't think Davis' salary says anything about his role on the team, 2.5 million is bench player money, its less than what John McDonald made last year
