Rashard Lewis Appreciation Thread

i think this man deserves an appreciation thread. as a wizard, hes averaging a career high in assists (3.3) and rebounds (7.5). hes shooting 58 ts% (ny is shooting 57%) and hitting nearly 40% of his 3s. hes been solid on defense and has been a vocal leader that we so badly needed on the court. hes now posting a per of 16 as a wizard (11.1 in orlando) and creating some really tough matchup problems for opposing teams.

After being traded from a contender to a bottom dweller it would have been easy for him to just mail it in and collect checks. Instead he has played hard, and well, from the first game. Defintely a pleasant surprise. I thought he would be garbage.

Yeah, Rashard does seem like the kind of "pro" our young team needed both on the court and in the locker room. Wall has already talked about how much Lewis has helped/encouraged him. Rashard has only been here about a month so I expect his comfort level as a leader (and the young guys comfort level with him) will only get better over time.

Then again, we might not want to get too comfy with Lewis because there's also a chance that he could be traded to a contending team before the trade deadline. I'm sure there are some playoff-bound teams that could use a Rashard Lewis

As much as I hated the trade at the time, I must admit, this was a good trade. The main reason why most of us hated the trade is because we were nostalgic for the Gilbert Arenas of old who was not coming back.

I will no longer refer to him as Shart, he's been a real surprise. A very good stretch 3 to help space the floor. Orlando has been misusing him for years.

i love having rashard on the floor with nick.. especially when nick gets hot. it really opens it up for shard to take those open 3s. how many times have we seen a defender over play nick only to leave rashard wide open for 3.

Looked good to me on the floor as well, but gotta play devil's advocate guys.......we still suck.

Definitely recognize his strengths, but honestly all he is bringing is a pro approach to the game. Outside of him we really don't have a single vet that brings that to the table.

I think what frustrated Orlando is he's 6'10", very capable of rebounding/posting up and was content shooting threes instead. Once he hits one of his classic 15 game stretches of not being able to hit a three let's revisit.

And the Wiz board rollercoaster continues. After a win we're all just having fun racing down towards the bottom of the hill only to make our slow ascent.

That offense is built to keep teammates out of Howard's way and ready to knock down the open jumper when Superman is doubled or tripled team.

+1. Saying we suck isn't playing devils advocate. It's just off topic.

I think a lot of the bump in production boils down to Lewis now playing SF, whereas in Orlando he was this gimmicky "stretch four." He couldn't post up or rebound with 4's the way he can with 3's.

He's by no means a special player and isn't remotely worth his salary. But he's an able place-holder until we find our building block SF.

He has a nice post game... his passing in the post is excellent.

I thought he would be some shiggidy, but he has been solid.

Fair enough, and wasn't speaking to everyone at times though when the statistical analysis gets a bit too deep it borders on hope........I'm all for improvement. However, I want to see the improvement in our young guys, Lewis has been teasing fans with his talent for 10 years now.

Solid player no doubt, but honestly I don't find him worthy of any appreciation. McGee/Young and even Blatche after his performance last night have all my attention.

What I've noticed is that he plays very smart, has a high bball iq (relative to his teammates) and plays within himself and the offense. Very nice pickup. A professional that can be a model for the young players on the team.

I can't believe Shard is still getting panned by a good section of this board. He has definitely produced better than Gilbert post trade. He has helped our team to a better record. He has a year less on his contract. The trade was a win for us.

That and he's a better SF than PF--without a doubt. Flip has been playing Shard the way he should.

The guy has been everything I thought he wouldn't be.

I am pleased that Lewis is still able to play well at SF and that he is such a positive, team-first guy and a great role model for young players.

I (again) owe Ernie Grunfeld an apology. Horrible contract? Not considering the team's play lately.

Also, Flip has used him wisely at SF and most nights he is really good there.
