Dwight Howard will opt out ?

Post#1 » by geeman » Sun Jan 16, 2011 11:39 pm

If so, would his home town team be a landing place for him? If so, maybe we should be doing our best bo get a point in here.

His home team would be in the running, but he would want to leave to go to a contender and a franchise that could adapt and keep him happy. This franchise does no such thing. Plus, our cap situation wont allow us to do that without moving some pieces. I would love it, but its a pipe dream.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

If Dwight demanded it, the Hawks could always work out a sign and trade. Josh or Horford for Dwight.

Dwight, Josh, and Joe should be good enough to win a championship.

No way DH comes back home; the market isn't big enough.

DH wants to be bigger than LeBron, Kobe and DWade.

He is headed to LA or Chicago IMO if things don't work out in Orlando.

Atlanta is low on the priority list.

If he wants to be bigger than those guys why would he go to cities with stars already there where he would have to share the limelight? In Chicago he would have to share with Rose, in LA (I am guessing you mean the Clippers) he would have to share with Blake.

Since Dwight and Josh already played together that would likely be their goal. Home team baby!

As much as I would hate to let AL go the UF boy for the Georgia boy trade could get it down. How ever I would rather it be Joe + Zaza and a 1st rounder for Dwight and Reddick and a 2nd

We can't sign him and Dwight can't force his way on to a team. Just look at the trouble Carmelo is having trying to get to the Knicks.

I see your point, but raise you Bosh and LeBron.

I fail to see yours unless you are implying we dump Joe, Al, Marvin, Zaza, don't resign Jamal and then cross our fingers that Dwight will be happy to join a team with only Smoove on the roster 2 seasons from now.

the situations are not apt, because the Hawks have more assets in trade value than the Knicks or Nets have.

Plus, if you think about it, Anthony probably will get just what he wants. IF (that's a big if) Howard wants to come to ATL, we have a good chance.

That said, I've heard more about DH to the LAKERS.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Doesn't matter what our trade assets are we won't have the cap to sign Dwight. Dwight can't just force his way to a capped out team and the Magic don't have to deal with a team in their division that has zero ability of signing their player outright. Neither the Hawks or Dwight have any leverage in that situation.
Carmelo is getting screwed because he not only wants to go to the Knicks but he also wants his 65mil extension which likely won't be available to him in the offseason thus why he is trying to get traded there now....it's not working out for him so far. The Knicks will at least have the cap space to sign Carmelo outright next season anyway so it doesn't matter to them. The Hawks will not, I repeat, will not have cap space to sign Dwight in 2012 without at least two members of our core being moved for expirings.

Lakers will have an even harder time getting him with 91mil on the books for 2012. Really teams will have to do like Miami, New York, Chicago and the Clippers did which is give up on winning in the short term, gut the team and give away talent for cap space in the hopes of forming a super team later.
