The future of this team

Post#1 » by kd35sneighbor » Tue Jan 18, 2011 2:27 pm

is Tony Parker? Obviously Popo is staying after Duncan retires... How long will Ginobili stay relevant? He's one of my favorite players in the league... It's going to be sad when he declines.. I hope the Spurs find another player similar to his caliber. And who is this Gary Neal? What happens to James Anderson? Seems like the wing spot is crowded. George Hill... trade chip or future of the team? When Duncan is gone, is Tiago taking over? Or is he another Milicic? So many questions.. I love the Spurs and I want them to stay relevant forever..

Anderson is injuried.

Gary Neal is awesome.

I don't think Tiago's a bust yet, there's just no room for him in the rotation right now. I don't see him ever really becoming a star but I really think he's going to be a great role player down the road.

I know he's injured.. what I'm saying is doesn't the emergence of Neal make him expendable?

Possibly, we could use him as trade bait.

We have good pieces, but we're likely to be fringe playoff contenders unless someone develops into an all-star or we got one via draft/FA or whatever.

The future team looks like this: Splitter, Blair, Anderson, Neal, Hill.

Tony Parker should still be in his early 30s and still very productive/all-star player so our backcourt is probably set. The frontline needs some low post scoring. If Splitter develops into a low post threat, he can atleast be Nene-like. IMO, Nene is all-star quality Center.

Anyways, I do think we should continue making the playoffs after Duncan/Manu is gone. Title contenders is a whole different level. We're gonna need to find ourselves a Superstar for that to happen. Problem is, I don't see Superstar level talent on our team. Otherwise we'll probably be one of those teams that got stuck in the playoffs as a low seed.

I feel that the future of our team depends on Splitter and Blairs progress. With Hill, Neal, Anderson and Parker our back court is set for a while. I belive we can be a playoff team for awhile with our current roster. Like I said before Splitter and Blairs progress will set the tone for years to come good or bad. We draft well with late round picks so I am confident in the FO and there choices but we do need to use the FA market for a soild SF and Center. I wonder if we can land a big name to play with TD in his last few seasons like TD was to MR Robinson?
A big DREAM would be Howard and Luc Mbah a Moute but its just a daydream.
Also Im not sure how all the cba talks will effect everything I hope theres no lockout.

Isn't Blair expected to have a shortened career due to having no ACLs?

Well he hasn't had a knee injury since highschool so its hard to say if that will affect his career.

Most Spurs fans post on Spurstalk.
