Interesting thing he just said. He hasn't been involved in the day to day, just long term strategy. Methinks he gave Billy King too much rope to make this team look stupid.

Just think of the fallout this going to cause.
Rip must go.
Devin must go.
Melo must go.
Troy must go.
BTW, this Russian chick will get it.

Re: Carmelo Anthony Thread (Part 2)
I'm willing to bet there is a swift followup move to this press conference to hammer home that we move on. Nothing that will commit a lot of money but I could see them trading Devin for Andre Miller + or something like that. Change the tenor of the team and fire another shot across the bow at Denver.
When push comes to shove I still think Denver comes back to the table begging for Favors and our 1st by the trade Deadline, especially if we can get a solid team oriented PG who will help Favors look good.

Yeah I'm interested in where Devin will go and what he's going to bring back.

NyCeEvO wrote:Ok, I don't know why people continue to suggest that a package based on Curry/Gallo/Chandler/pick would really entice the Nuggets. It makes no sense for them.
1) Curry is an expiring. Murphy is an expiring. The Nuggets don't want to add salary for this season, which is why Murphy is not included in the present deal. They want cap relief. It makes no sense to take Curry.
2) Chandler is a restricted free agent at the end of the season. If the Nuggets acquire him, it's just a smaller version of the Melo situation. If they want to keep him, they would have to present him with a new contract and the way he's been playing this season, would dictate that he would be handsomely rewarded. Again, the Nuggets don't want to add a big salary. Chandler could easily command more than what Harrington gets and look at how bad they want to get rid of Harrington.
3) Pick. Uh, any 1st round pick that the Knicks will get for Randolph won't be a lottery pick. What non-playoff bound team in their right mind would give up their lottery pick for Anthony Randolph? None. Therefore, their pick would most likely be from the bottom of the first round. Even, we have better picks than that.
4) Gallo is a nice player but are you really going to make a deal in which you're giving up Melo, adding to your present salary, forcing yourself to either pay big bucks to keep Chandler next year or lose him completely (which is basically making him a rental player), just to add Gallo to your team? It makes little sense. When you break down the deal, it's really crappy and the only think Denver gets out of it is, Gallo who will be a restricted free agent after next season.
Basically, all components of this deal are pretty bad for Denver in almost every way. Even offering this for Melo as a rental would entice me very little if I was Denver.
Nothing the Nix have entices the Nuggets. That's the wrong word. Its more like what will they accept. What will they accept...and you have to follow the thinking...the theory I was putting out there.
The theory is....Melo wants NY...and NY only.
Denver says...they are offering crap and they have crap...and we don't want to do that.
Denver says...look there are other teams who have packages we would take. Melo shoots them all down. Again...working the theory here...not stating facts.
Melo calling the shots...Denver has only three options.
1- Take a crap offer from NY.
2- Get Melo to take the extension and stay put.
2- Deal Melo to a team willing to give up something for him without the extension, but you have to think that offer would be worse than the Nix bad offer for an extended Melo, right? Well, they have to make Melo think not true.
So they go to Melo and say...OK look. Walsh isn't even offering his best offer for you...and that to us is unacceptable since we find his best possible offer to be 50 cents on the dollar if that. WE WONT DO IT.
So as of now we are looking at only options 2 and 3. But...there is a way perhaps we can get the Knicks to consider making the trade. We need to be able to negotiate with other teams and drive up the price. We need to get offers than get the Knicks to consider making their best possible offer. Now yes, we understand that you may not like your new team (Nix) giving up more assets...but you have only 2 choices. Play nice...keep your mouth shut and let us see if we can do this....which gets you to the team of your choice and gets you the extension. Or, you can look to sign there this summer...opt out, give up your extension and take your chances with the new CBA.
Now, should we fail to get an offer we can live with from NY, we will sit back down with you before the trade deadline and we can give you the options.
They will of course be...
1- Take the extension and stay in Denver...(why Melo keeps saying he hasn't ruled Denver out)
2- Take the extension and we ship you to NJ or a team that you prefer offering us enough to do it (like Chicago if hey can get them to improve the offer).
3- We deal you to a third party team that is willing to make a deal without an extension and you are free to go elsewhere this summer.
So that is the theory. Melo is playing nice to give Denver the chance to get enough to make a deal. I think Walsh is playing it great if that is true. Yes the Nix package isn't anywhere near the best out there...but it doesn't need to be. They are being given a chance to steal a guy because that guy has leverage and wants them, which of course speaks to market advantage and why we cant get to Brooklyn fast enough for my liking. Denver is fighting back by saying oh yeah? Well, who says we have to do what you want if we cant get anything we want. The compromise is...we'll do it...so long as we GET the best deal we can from that one team.
Walsh has to hope Melo doesn't blink if this theory is true. Denver hopes he does...Melo hopes the Nix or Denver will so he can go to his first choice team WITH his fat extension.
If Melo believe Denver that they WONT deal him to NY for the package they are offering...then he has a choice. Take the money....or put your money where your mouth is and sign with NY over the summer thus only costing them Chandler who will most likely be let go like Lee did last summer to have cap space to give Melo the best deal they can...which of course means Melo gave up 10's of millions.
Would he do it? Well, what do you believe more.
When he says..."Its not the money I just want to win".
Or when he says, "Wherever I go it will be with the extension. I would have to be crazy to walk away from 80 mil guaranteed with the new CBA issues."
Other than the Heat big three its has ALWAYS been about the money. All players yap about winning...and then take the cash from the weaker situation in this sport. We haven't seen anyone take even a few mil less on the big contracts. These guys say all the things fans want to hear for image..and then take the cash. And I think that is what Denver is counting on here. Typically its the team that folds. The player's leverage usually wins out. But so far Denver is making him sweat.
And make no mistake. This isn't about grudges or not wanting to make Melo happy. This is business. They are looking to create the best situation they can out of a bad one.
If that's stalling log enough to keep Melo...great.
If that's him going ot NJ and NJ gives them an absurd package for his talents...great.
If that's NY...well...then the hope is...hey, we got the most we could possibly get.

Billy King still looks totally out of control in terms of grasping this process. Seems to have no long term perspective.

Brenice wrote:You know what I find funny, pawns. Like in what they want, doesn't matter. It is all about what Melo wants. Melo wants to play with this or play in this area. Who says Galinari or Favors, etc., wants to leave New York or Jersey. Do they have a say in the matter? The Nuggets are pawns too. Like Cleveland last year. You either trade me for unknowns or young players, or else "I'm taking my game to Miami". A team can bend over backwards for LeBron(Cavs) or Melo(Nuggets), build around that player. Spend money and acquire Shaq/Jamison(Cavs) or Iverson/Billups(Nuggets), trying to keep the primadonna(LeBron/Melo) happy, but the primadonna wants to player poker only after being dealt a royal flush(LeBron chose Miami only after Bosh showed his cards as "All In" Miami. So know, Melo is jocking New York/or Jersey. New York, Amare showed his cards in New York. Jersey has a bunch of queens and kings to deal(lottery picks or young lottery draftees) to deal for Melo. You think Melo wouldn't go to Jersey unless another Ace(CP3 is watching) is ready to follow suit.
Bull crap. Teams are no better. They have no loyalty to players. They don't bend over backwards or the player...they do what they have to do. Players will use their leverage when they can...but make no mistake...they will trade anyone when it suits their needs. We forget this is a business for both parties. For us its our entertainment. For them its their livelihood. We try to deny them that by seeing that they make so much more money than the average person. So we think...if I had all that money I would do this and that. But its bull.
The more you have, the more you want. Bigger wallets, come bigger houses come bigger responsibilities. They feel the pressure just like you do when you get a job offer from a rival company offering you a better situation. Its just human nature...albeit on a larger scale.

With the way these two press conferences have gone, I have the feeling King was the one desperately trying to trade for 'Melo, not Proky.

Re: Carmelo Anthony Thread (Part 2)
Great news for you guys. Congrats. Trading away a potential top 5 pick to cap out as a 45 win team when you have a very good opportunity to build a team through the draft would have been disastrous. I guess Thorn was let go because he wanted to rebuild the right way? You guys are a wing and a high-ceiling guard away from being a playoff team. One of those will be acquired through the draft, and then you just need to use FA and the eventual Devin Harris trade to get the other. I can see you guys targeting Mayo, Batum, Granger, or possibly Gerald Wallace (though I don't think Wallace is a good move).
RIP Jared Jeffries. Gone but never forgotten...2006-2012

I always loved how Thorn's deals would be touched on lightly one day, then he'd deny them...3 weeks later after you start forgetting about it you get slapped BAM in the face with a deal. Besides JKidd's departure (really thanks to Stackhouse's big mouth though) most of Thorn's deals were like this.
I believe ROd jumped ship because he saw the handwritting on the wall.
And...I absolutely believe Denver has leaked more than half of what's out there and then they went public and demanded that the leaks stop. That smelled of PR bull crap.
THey are in the news dailing...and having everyone here absurd offers for the guy they are talking about trading is GOOD for them. THey want Walsh and Chicago and everyone else to hear it.
