Trade ron artest?

Post#1 » by joelafan » Thu Jan 20, 2011 9:35 pm

Im getting sick of ron incapable abilty to produce any offense. He also cant dribble the ball to save his life and hes not playing top 5 defender basketball either? Should we trade ron artest? I throw some trade scenarios first one ron artest LO for Melo. It works fincally.

The timing for this post of way off. Artest has been playing well of late and is actually shooting one of the best percentages from 3 of his career. Not to mention that he shut down Durant in their last meeting. He's an infurating player at times and makes mistakes, but he has a place on this team.

Nuggets would be insane to take that offer. Artest definitely hasn't been the player we all expected him to be since he signed here but we are kind of stuck with him. Nobody is going to trade anyone good for him and we wouldn't dump him just to dump him. All we can do is hope that his game comes back to him by playoffs so we'd have another shot at the title.

Have youve seen him dribble lately? His 3 pointer percentage isnt even that great to begin with. And he still trying figure out the offense it seems its going on 2 seasons. His defense was good on kd but overall this season his defense has been sub par at best.

fail statement. He better being more worried about guarding the spurs who pose a great threat to the lakers this year. And bron went off on him on x-mas day. Im not one to put to much stock in the regular season but this have been a trend since they begining of the season. Not good. Not good at all.

The Lakers don't use Artest on offense for anything but spot up threes and some post ups. He doesn't handle the ball in our offense enough that it's a problem. If you want to talk about getting a guy here that could leviate some of the ball handling duties off of Bryant, fine, but that would have nothing to do with Artest. Currently Artest is shooting 39% from three point range, which is 3 percent better than the league average. For the month he is shooting 49%. That's pretty good. And if his defense this year has been sub-par, prove it and back up your claim with stats.

Artest has slowly but surely been getting better on the offensive side, yesterday was pretty bad, but the games before that his shot was looking much better. I wouldn't trade him.

Apperntly you havent watched ron artest this whole month. Or you would see his ridicously bad dribbling skills.I know hes not suppose to dribble but he does it anyway. I tried give ron pass for his game 7 performance but its getting ridiculous. 3 rebounds per game. And he avg a T.O a guy who not suppsose to be handling the ball.. He cripples the lakers on offense at times aswell. If it not a catch and shoot then theres no reason for him to have the ball. And he takes a forever to shoot a wide open 3.

Well if you look from it from denever prospective they would be getting a guy who can defend which they have always sorley needed and LO a key player on any team. Its either that or wait for another team to waste 4 weeks.(nets), And at the begining of next season they will be the next cleveland cavilers.instead of a decent west team.

ron is killing it from 3pt land, shooting almost 40% for the season.

You seem extremely set in your ways. You say he can't dribble. The reality is he is very, very rarely asked to do so. You say he is inept on offense. He's not asked to do much at all on offense. You say he can't shoot. He's shooting extremely well from three lately, and fairly well overall on the year. Ron Artest is fine, and he is not the problem on the Lakers. He's fine on offense, since he does what very little we ask of him. The Lakers have him for defensive purposes, and he provides just that. Is he a great defender all 82 regular season games? Maybe not, but he's still good at the least on most nights. Don't forget too, that having Artest enables Kobe to not have to guard the best perimeter player on the opposing team each night. That alone makes Artest extremely crucial to this team. Lastly, faulting him for averaging a measly one turnover a game is a joke. There's only 6 players in the league who average over 25 minutes per game, like Artest, and average less turnovers per game then his one (Sefoloshsa, Ibaka, Gomes, Redick, Bell, and Batum) who are all around 1 turnover themselves. It sounds to me as if you're just upset with Artest and trying to pick apart his game, creating problems which he really doesn't have.

Plus why wouldnt you want melo . Granted the lakers would aslo have to give up a draft pick or 2. Melo defends alright and the scoring total out wieghs ron artest defense. Oh and hes out rebounding ron. Yes giving LO would hourt but in the long run melo scoring would help the lakers scoring slumps tremdously.

Our offense isn't our problem though, and Melo is not a good defender by any means. We don't get huge rebounding numbers out of the SF position anyway because we have 2 7 footers and LO, who is actually a better rebounder than both of them.

About Ron guarding Lebron...

He's been horrible at it since he got to the Lakers. Kobe used to guard Bron better.

yea it would hurt on that end. and actually our offense is partialy our problem right now.Are inabilty to score when we have leads is the reason we lost last night against the mavericks.

If we could get Melo HELL YEAH I mean come on it's Melo but it's not going to happen so Ron stays, if he just focuses on defense and hits that open 3 he will be alright, but yeah he should never dribble in his life

So basically, you're basing all this on last nights game against the mavericks?

You continue to bash Artests shooting.. but hes 39% from deep on the year. Almost 50% during this month.
He guards the opposing teams best player, conserving a lot of energy for kobe offensively.
we run the triangle, we don't need artest to continually be dribbling the ball for us.
Considering Artest play's 28 minutes a game, you're bashing him for averaging 0.98 turnovers a game? How is that killing our offense?
As for the rebounds, we have 2 7 footers, and lamar off the bench. Plus we are out rebounding our opponents by about 4 rebounds a game, that isn't really a major concern for us.

And also, the nuggets are going into rebuilding mode. They are not going to take a couple of 30 year olds with over 2 years remaining on their contracts, its about getting youth and picks. ( not really things we could provide the nuggets )
