Which star has the highest basketball IQ ?

Post#1 » by moximus » Fri Jan 21, 2011 8:16 am

Kevin Love supposedly has a super high BBIQ. The draft report of Kevin Love says this

http://www.nbadraft.net/players/kevin-love
Strengths: Incredibly strong and gifted big man with a basketball IQ that is off the charts

Anyone else?

Any white player.

In all seriousness though, I'm somewhat inclined to go with Manu. He might not win over many people outside of San Antonio fans with the way he plays, but he knows what is conductive to winning basketball games and exploits that. Even when his shot isn't falling, he finds ways to be extremely effective when on the court.

Others would be:

Fisher
Odom
Calderon
Nash

Duncan has to be in the conversation, along w

With Parker. Anyone who plays under Pops gains a high BBIQ. I'd even put Bonner in there with them.

Rasho, too.

Kobe, duh

Deron and CP3 tied, they always seem to know just how and when to make a pass and when to be assertive in making a play for themselves. Perfect PG's, though I prefer Williams

Manu, I just think not only is he so solid at fundamentals and passing and knowing where his teammates are, he's just so crafty that he knows what to do with every angle and every type of contact that he draws, he's literally got a 6th sense for the game

Pau Gasol is underrated as far as IQ, rarely makes mistakes as far as choosing his spots, knowing where to be on the court, having court vision in the post, etc.

Watching Nic Batum the last two games, the kid made all the right play on both ends, looks like a very smart basketball player.

Yeah I was tempted to include Duncan in that. And maybe 2-3 years ago I would've said Duncan instead of Manu, and while he's still very effective, Duncan is declining and it's becoming more visible that Manu is the MVP of that team. Every time I watch the Spurs I always come away thinking how Manu always makes the right plays, and always at the most integral points in the game. It's like he saves his more concentrated output for those crunch moments.

Rasho, too.

Duncan fell off hard physically, but is still playing because of his BBIQ. Duncan is still Duncan because of his smarts.

Kobe obviously.

I can't stand when they say Luke Walton has a high BBIQ, although he may have one off the court, on the court he is just horrible, I mean awful.

Oh, without question, I agree with you. But I feel like with Duncan's decline (and I'm not trying to suggest his BBIQ is affected by his physical decline, that would be foolish), Manu's ascension to the mantle of that Spurs unit has brought his ability and extremely high BBIQ more to the forefront, and it's more apparent now that he has a larger role.

I suppose I'm just arguing for the sake of it here, Manu and Duncan are both clear candidates and they're both right up there for highest BBIQ in the league.

Duncan's decline in ability probably effected what he can do with his BBIQ. His BBIQ has been top 5 in the league since his first game. He's studied the game and knows how to play it. BBIQ only rises as players age. Ability lowers and thus the ability to use your BBIQ.

Ummm Kobe's up there, but to say 'Kobe obviously' is stupid. His idiotic shot selection at times makes me question his bball IQ.

Just wanted to add... Manu is in the top 20 of BBIQ too, but Duncan is first on the Spurs. Manu is a close second and Parker is third...

The Spurs are nearly 1-12 with high BBIQ players.

Kobe goes and take stupid shots? Yes.

Enough for it to even be a problem anymore? No.

This is not 2006. Kobe knows how to win. Saying he takes bad shots is a **** stupid observation. Every team leader take bad shots now and than. Kobe does it no more than anyother team leader. Bringing it up is just **** stupid.

I'm obviously not a fan of Kobe, nor the Lakers, but even I know Kobe's game. He has the highest BBIQ in the game, highest since Jordan in 98. I don't like Kobe but I respect his game. He's a top 5 guard no question and top x all time.

Kobe has the highest BBIQ in the L and it's no question.
