Kobe still takes plenty of (Please Use More Appropriate Word) shots. Two buckets (or even one) still require a 35 ft heat check. Pau occasionally quips (not overtly) about not getting touches while Kobe is chucking. It's still a problem, particularly when the Lakers get away from their bigs for parts of the game (and season).

Not saying Kobe ruins the Lakers, but saying "Kobe has the highest BBIQ in the L and it's no question," is, well, questionable.

In all seriousness though, I'm somewhat inclined to go with Manu. He might not win over many people outside of San Antonio fans with the way he plays, but he knows what is conductive to winning basketball games and exploits that. Even when his shot isn't falling, he finds ways to be extremely effective when on the court.

Derrick Rose is probably the smartest player out there right now.

Kobe's shot selection and overplaying his man on defense not seeing the court disqualifies him from this discussion.

Landry Fields definitely has one of the highest bball IQ's in the league, which is even more impressive considering he is a rookie. He is always at right place at the right time, plays very well off the ball, sees the court well, makes the right pass, moves the ball, cuts a lot to the basket for easy layups, crashes the offensive glass.

I think young players should pattern their game after Fields' rather than Kobe's.

This is not 2006. Kobe knows how to win. Saying he takes bad shots is a **** stupid observation.

Agreed on Manu, the guy just makes the right choices 99% of the time it seems.

I'd throw Paul Pierce and Rondo into the discussion. Pierce doesn't really have top tier athleticism or strength, and yet still just seems to know how to get things done. Rondo just seems like the chess player who's always five steps ahead.

How do you measure BBIQ?

How is what a player does on the floor reflect his BBIQ? I mean he may know the "right" decision but choose to do something else.

Kobe is up there, but there are too many instances where he simply tries to play beyond his capabilities and has either cost or almost cost the Laker's games. That's not high IQ basketball. A good example of that is the last time LA played the Spurs. Bryant's shot selection was horrible, and resulted in a Lakers loss. He's still top 5 though.

I think you have to go with either Manu, Duncan, or Steve Nash. These guys have physical shortcomings, but are so good because because of their high Bball IQ.

Neither Lebron or Kobe are in this discussion. Actually of the top 3 I think Wade has the higher BBIQ.
