I can see why they said no. That deal really isn't any better than what the Rockets can offer (Yao's insurance covered contract, your pick and two of our young players). Plus Chandler is going to get a big raise this summer, and hasn't he said he doesn't want to be in Denver?

The Knicks should have the best shot but your GM is going to have to come with a real package. At least enough to beat the rental offers.

Looks like Simmons is singing a different tune now. I wonder if he knew about the Knicks lowball offer when he posted this:

http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/36624

John (Dallas)
Have any thoughts on where Carmelo will be going and when?

Bill Simmons
(2:11 PM)
Everyone thinks I'm crazy - but I think someone's going to rent him for the season. That's where this is going. Denver needs to move soon because this whole saga has turned into a disaster for them on and off the court. The Knicks are lowballing them. The Nets won't talk to them. So at some point, they have to cut their losses and do something. The best rental matchup is Houston: They have Yao's expiring contract (partially paid by insurance), multiple draft picks, Shane Battier, a young power forward to throw in (either Patterson or Hill), Jefferies' expiring contract... I mean, they could put together a monster deal that would save Denver serious cash, allow them to start over and keep them competitive for Ewing Theory potential this spring. And if you're the Rockets, you're hoping either Carmelo likes it in Houston, OR the new CBA rules will swing your way and make it financially beneficial for Melo to stay, OR you can rent him for half a season, then flip him to the Knicks this summer for 80 cents on the dollar for what you gave up.

It's probably mainly because they don't want anything to do with Chandler as a RFA. Solution? Recruit a 3rd team that likes Chandler and try to see if we can get back something that Denver likes.

This is good news, IMHO that Denver and NY are talking. This is a positive thing.

Who likes Gallo more than Denver, can we involve them in a 3 way, or like Jstudabaka said, maybe theres a team that Chandler will goto

That's my point... Trade Azu's contract, AR, Gallo and Chandler all for 1st rounders and ship Four of them to Denver. Obviously, you only do that with an agreement in place with Denver.

4 first round picks, Curry, 3 million for Melo+ Billups or Balkman...

How Denver rates our three prospects, per Sheridan:

I am told they like Fields, they like Chandler but don't want a key piece of the trade to be a player entering free agency, and they are not all that enamored of Gallinari. So that's why a lot of people think this ends up being a three- or four-way trade in which Chandler ends up with a team that would not be entering the type of rebuilding mode Denver would be moving toward.

well if this is the case, i'm ready to ride or die with our own guys for the rest of the season and throw our hats into the ring for melo in the offseason.

Melo wants to win? well we cant blow up our entire team.

Still four weeks before the trade deadline. The Nuggets are right to wait for a better offer. They probably know the Knicks offer will still be on the table in one month.

If it's true then Walsh just needs to wait and make the same offer just before the trade deadline. Take it or leave it. If Melo keeps saying he only sign an extension with the Knicks then either the Nuggets will cave in or they will play poker til the end and keep Melo until the end of the season and hope he will sign an extension with them before june 30.

The good thing about that is Melo knows now the Knicks tried and made an offer. The Nuggets can't tell him the Knicks don't want to give up assets for him in order to push him to accept a trade to another team.

If Chandler Fields expirings and a pick is not enough, then go bring me the deal that betters it. A realistic trade that wont fall apart, again, when it comes time to sigh the paper work.

Actually if that is not enough, we are done chatting. We'll talk again when the lockout is over.

I will say one thing, I really hope we learnt from the Nets' fiasco. If there is no deal to be made, shut it down now and just move on and wait for the summer and see what happens. This season coudl spiral out of control if the players start getting distracted.

I trust Donnie... You can never start high in negotiations. And Whether some people understand this Denver may not be high on Gallo or Chandler but there are other team that are. We can work with those teams and get a deal done.

What is the most amount of first-rounders we can get?

Who can net us a 1st rdr? Can Toney Douglas get us one? Can 3 M, and a 2nd Rd Pick, Mozgov (someone would want him I would hope)? Obviously AR can get us one?

If we get a 2012 pick, we can trade Our 11, 13,

So What is the likleyhood, and how many picks can we get?

Once you make an offer and you get a no, you don't go and make another offer. You ask for a counter offer. You ask what pieces they would like from a third team if necessary. Otherwise, you are basically bidding against yourself.

It is up to Denver to search for a better deal or come to Walsh and say what else they want. Do they want us to add Gallo? Do they want us to take on Al? Do they prefer a pick from a third team? A simple no means they don't want to negotiate.

Chris Sheridan reported that the Nugs like Fields and Walker. ( http://espn.go.com/espnradio/player?rd=1#/podcenter/?id=6042760&callsign=ESPNRADIO&autoplay=1
) Fields is no surprise, but this is the first I heard of them liking Walker. I'm guessing both of those guys might have to be included.

Would make sense from a cost to production standpoint. Fields is doing great and is one a 2nd rounder contract. Bill Walker (the former top HS product and projected lottery pick...before concerns about his knees which have never failed him thus far in the NBA pushed him way down) is one possibly one of the cheapest contracts for a guy that actually plays in the NBA.

From a production standpoint, hard to knock fields since he's widely considered the 3rd best player in this rookie class. Walker has the NBA body, NBA athleticism and the pedigree to do well if given playing time (which he'd likely get in Denver).
