Re: Interested in another Build a Team?
I'll pass. Just took too much of my time, especially during the draft and then it went quite for ages with the judging. I don't mind being a judge but I don't really have the time to devote to research and drafting.

Are you interested in sharing a team with me? I'm kinda starting to have second thoughts, as I'm entering Year 11 this year... And like, since I'm Asian, I'm expected to be studying 24/7?

Re: Interested in another Build a Team?
So this is still very early, of course we need to see if we'd get 30 people and then flesh out a lot of details, but this is what I'm hearing from the majority
-Continue the game after the draft
-Make it quick moving but realistic (it's not hard to figure out, like Kerrsed said use the trade machine)
VERY tentative part, in order (so the game would total a couple months, but it would be active and no waiting around):
--Draft - similar to last time but going with what we learned about pick time - something like 10 hours for the first round and 8 hours for the rest of the rounds...tight enough but still allowing time for people at work/sleeping in different time zones
--Setting a rotation (like I said no simulation but just as part of building a team), trading period etc for a couple weeks representing 2010-11 season
--Playoff seeding by judges
--Rookie draft (lotto determined by judges), free agency (potential role described by interested team, then judges determine where everyone goes based on the team, roster and their explained use of the free agent etc) - another couple weeks
---2011-12 season, so another couple weeks of trading
--Final judging
So again, this is just a very early composition of people's ideas, the final result may be nothing like this, just putting it all together to make the discussion easier

The trade machine becomes tedious once players shift teams so often, but I normally keep a spreadsheet for these games that tracks play movements and team salaries for the purpose of trades and salary cap reasons, etc.
I'd be happy to keep a master file available on a linked site for those interested.

Re: Interested in another Build a Team?
How about this idea instead...
We pick our teams and whatever team we decide to pick we get to keep a player that is currently on that squad, so in essence everyone would probably pick the franchise player (ex. Chicago would pick Rose, Thunder would pick Durant). Now if a person picks a team that they don't want any of those players on that current roster, then they can choose from another team, however the person owning that team gets to pick their top guy first. So if someone who has the Cavs wants Lebron or Wade from the Heat, the Heat GM gets to make their choice which guy they want. Then after the first round all the players get sent to the draft pool.
Basically it's the same idea of a fantasy draft, but I dunno, different? Lol.

Re: Interested in another Build a Team?
I'll take my good ol' Spurs.
Oh and I would prefer option 1. I don't want to be bothered with all the cap management stuff. Maybe I'll just give up my team to someone on the waiting list after I'm done drafting?

Probably not man. It'll take just as much time to work out who we want etc etc.

If someone picks a team, it's safe to say they like the way the team is structured and believe they can use the pieces available to make the team a contender. So there's really no point in picking a team and scrapping all but one player, doesn't work the same. I say skip the draft, pick teams, and start the management part of it.

Okay. No worries.
Miklo, I'm still up for doing this B.A.T by myself. I'll find time somewhere. Cheers.

Actually, it was meant as in whatever pick you get, let's say I get the number three pick, then I pick Derrick Rose, and since he plays for the Bulls then that is my team. Everyone else gets dropped. It's pretty much a draft.
The whole point of a draft is to make the teams even out.
