Played in my hometown for a while - St.Catharines. Came up through the system. Nice guy.

The contract killed his mojo. GL in CA.

If anyone deserves an appreciation thread its V-Dub. Class act, great guy, solid player, not his fault we were going to pay him 22 mil each of the next 4 years.

Were glad to get rid of the contract, not the person.

bad contract. good player. great guy. an even better trade.

It's sad he'll be remembered mostly for that contract. Overall he had a long and productive tenure here as a player and I think we were all proud to have him represent our community.

Best of wishes and thanks for everything Vernon.

Great guy. Gave us a couple very good years to go along with some solid years. Like A-Mac said, its not his fault we gave him the contract.

Good luck to ya Vernon. Would love to see you in the playoffs.

I wish he was payed less so this trade would look worse.

Seemed like a great guy, always felt comfortable watching him bat and field. Solid at both.

I hope he posts All-Star numbers with Angels, not in our division :) .

Sad that we never got to see Delgado, Halladay or Wells in the playoffs here. Great guy and I hope he has success.

Lots to be appreciative about here guys. His contract was the fault of his agent and the previous regime. He was a solid citizen for many years. The roster wont be the same.

I can't even remember the Jays without Vernon so it will be weird seeing someone else in centre field, great guy I wish him all the best.

He deserves a nice hand when he comes back.

How was the contract the fault of his agent? It's the previous regime's issue, but even when the contract was done, backloading it was a no brainer for JP Riccardi at the time. Anyway, Wells is a good player, but was always inconsistent. Regardless, he always had a good attitude during his down years, and always played hard.

Awesome, awesome guy in the community and in general. He was very much a face of the franchise. I wish I saw him play in his early prime but I wasn't into baseball then.

Definitely going to make it out for his return if I can.

I really felt bad for Vernon when he was getting boo'ed at home. He was a class act and a hard worker. Injuries over the last few years definitely contributed to him slowing down, but he still wanted to play through when he could've easily saved face and had surgery.

Wish him the best of luck. Seems like a great guy with a lot of mental toughness. Will be weird not seeing him on the team. Like Doc, we practically watched him grow up.
