So we are not going to play Pietrus at all?

Post#1 » by Juan Montoya » Sat Jan 22, 2011 2:45 am

I have seen last season in every Orlando game and while it is true he likes to chuck up everything he gets his hands on, when he gets it going tho, you can expect raining threes. He is even able to put the ball on the floor and attack the rim. Just dont expect good passing skills from him.

So does Alvin Gentry try to prove some point to Pietrus by not letting him play or whats going on?

I can't figure this out either. I probably sound like a broken record around the board but I think Pietrus is our first or second best man defender and can hit the long ball too.

But actually currently 1-2 guys are just gonna get screwed in our rotation, just about everyone on the roster is a wing so it's a tough call. Childress and Pietrus are way too talented to rot on the bench though, I wish we'd try to get value in a trade for guys we're never gonna play.

Suns are ruining another key to the future.......................

if you dont develop a player into the fast paced offense, then they will never learn...

young guys on the suns

dragic
lopez
gortat(if u consider him young since he is in future goals)
frye
dudley
pietrus
childress

thats our future!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 players I can see starting for other teams in the NBA are childress, and pietrus........

frye can start and dudley possibly but i see them as bench players

im sure childress, and pietrus hate being on this team, and definitely looking into the future where they will be off this team.......

our management doesnt think about the future they think about NOW NOW NOW....

look at the spurs.... keeping together there team...

imagine if we kept out team together

joe johnson, nash, marion, stat...... then we could of grown with LOPEZ.... and had a bench like we do.....

we would be top in the league

Pietrus is not a piece of the Suns future. Neither was Earl Clark.

The Suns are winning w/o Pietrus. When he played, we lost.
The Phoenix Suns - 54-28. Projected Record: 54-28 3rd Seed

The Phoenix Suns - 2010-2011 Projected Record: 30-52 3rd lottery pick.

I like Pietrus' D, but his streakiness is killer, and we needed to build flow. His streaky nature was the antithesis of what we were trying to do.

It's amazing to have two guys that good getting DNPs though. It sucks as well. We're a deep team, but unbalanced.

I expect a deal by the deadline.

We don't need him right now. Vince probably won't be here next season, so one of our two wings will get PT.

We have them for the future and that's fine with me.

I'm sure its nothing against MP. the rotation is all screwed up so are the minutes distribution. Gentry still having trouble figuring out the proper rotation/minutes since the trade. reason we are winning is because of the effort. we are playing with heart.

Do you think the management is responsible for losing all of those guys? Let me guess... You just started watching the suns... Marion was the highest paid player on the suns and was complaining about being under appreciated, Joe Johnson openly admitted to leaving to be the headline guy, even though we offered him a ridiculously huge contract. Hell, we made a pretty good offer to Stat too, we offered him exactly what he's worth IMO.

Anyway, people always get so revved up about our future, and they list people on our team and talk about how that's our future. It's like these people don't every watch the NBA. Did we list Gortat and Carter to our 2011 squad last year? Teams change with the seasons. There is no telling what happens in the future. A couple trades, and it's a whole new ball club.

While MP has good defensive hands and legs, he's just an idiot. Our system can't afford low bball IQ from the 1-3 positions. If they mess up, imagine what the big guys will do. JChill has a terrible jumper. We can't afford a guy who can't hit from distance (even Grant is cutting close). I think Gentry has this exactly right. We aren't moving either of them, they'll be on through the season, and then if Carter goes, they stay, and vica versa.

Why is VC not expected to be here next year. I think he would be happy to stay even for a lesser contract, there seems to be good chemistry in this team and he is buddy with Grant Hill. The famous Suns medical staff would also keep him healthy.

Regarding Pietrus, he isnt great, but he is too good to not play at all. Give him a couple of minutes every game, and he will knock down a couple of threes and also play great D.

He is a luxuary piece for now, as childress is but it seems logical to keep the same players on the floor since we are winning again. I like Gentry for not putting them in garbage time just for the purpose to play them. He knows their value and doesn't need to see them just 2 or 3 minutes on the court when the game isn't on the line. It would be disrespectful to do that. Giving time to Siler makes way more sense because it gives him an opportunity to validate his efforts in practice and showing his skills. GT minutes won't help Pietrus & Chilly nor the suns. I guess we have to wait until the trade deadline to see how it goes.

^Agreed.
And Gentry had to make a decision about our wing rotation, and obviously Childress and Pietrus are the ones who are getting cut.

I don't see anything wrong with having a little insurance. God forbid, but if an injury or a suspension or some crap takes out Hill or Carter, then all of a sudden we just plug Peaches or Chilly and we don't miss a beat.

That is called DEPTH, and that is awesome.

Also.... we can't trade Pietrus or Childress for that matter, if they are injured. Right now, we have shown enough promise with our wing rotation of Hill, Carter, Dudley, and occasionally Dragic.

I hope we keep JChill for next yr. He is pro enough to understand his current role. And should still be pleased he is inked up long term here.

There simply isn't enough space for him at the moment. You guys have a logjam at the wings (that is a luxury I suppose) and Pietrus isn't really your best option.

Also, I know he has a reputation as a good defender, but I've honestly questioned his defense all season.
