I just want the Raptors to select Kyrie Irving. That's it for me. I'd be okay with a BPA pick, but my preference is for Kyrie Irving to be the starting PG for the Raptors come opening night. Everybody else is kind of "meh" to me at this point.

The 2012 draft, OTOH, is a different story. There are a lot of quality prospects, potentially, that can be had throughout the lottery (picks 1-14).

This year's draft bottoms out after the top 5 imo, where T. Jones, Vesely, Burks, Kemba Walker, etc. have similar value as prospects. But, I do think that there will value to be had towards the end of the 1st rd.(picks 20-30) and into the 2nd rd.

The guys I'd get excited for are Irving, Perry Jones, and Kanter. I'd be happy-but-not-excited for a SF like T. Jones, Vesely, Henson. I know I'm getting a defensive improvement and Demar fit with those guys, but good role player seems like their billing. Picking Valanciunas would scare the **** out of me. There's a big difference between the thick big man who shows great post feel and fundamentals in Kanter, and the super tall and skinny athletic guy with no offensive game in Valanciunas, for me. Valanciunas could work out but I'd be terrified of getting the tallest guy on the court who has no feel for the game and keeps fouling everyone. As for Kemba, I might have to take a break from RealGM if we take him, I can see exactly where 6'0 scoring PG who lit it up in his junior year is going and it's not a pretty sight, we might as well trade our pick for Jonny **** Flynn

I don't get the vibe with Valanciunas either, he has bust written all over his face. But you know who we'll seriously get for sure. BC already gave us a huge clue ever since he was caught scouting in the Kansas Baylor Bear game.

See, for me, I think we're set with our bigs, w/ Davis, Bargnani, Amir being the front 3. Ideally, you'd want a veteran big to round out the rotation (somebody like Pryzbilla comes to mind, or even a guy like Robin Lopez), and then you'd keep some project bigs around for development, say, 1 or 2 of Ajinca, Dorsey, and Alabi.

So, if Kanter is indeed the best player available when it comes time for us to pick, I think we'd eventually have to deal either Ed Davis or Andrea Bargnani...or even Kanter himself, if he establishes that he's worthy of a starting role coming off of the bench in his rookie season. And I don't want to give up on Ed Davis this early into his tenure with this team. I say, keep everything the way it is, with Bargs, Davis, and Amir, and sign a veteran big who can play with Bargs or Davis, and is perfectly content with his role on the team. A C's version of Reggie Evans would suffice, in terms of the role said player would play.

I agree with everything you said with respect to the other prospects. Of course, if Kanter, Valanciunas, or any of these guys are star-calibre players, you make room for them no matter what. We just don't know if there are any of those kind of prospects in this draft.

And besides, a PF sized guy who plays like a C and anchors a defense is exactly what we're looking for beside Bargnani

Let's stop with this finding someone to play beside Bargnani.
I want someone to play instead of Bargnani.

This...

We have ED and Amir who could make for a good rotation at PF for a long time and they don't need a team full of players catering to their deficiencies. So I say we just find a real center to play center.

The most frustrating part of this whole situation is knowing that we have to find someone to play beside Bargnani as long as Bryan is GM. His unshaken love for Bargnani is as big a detriment to this organization as ignorant Americans not wanting to play here because we supposedly live in Igloos. Until we trade Bargnani or he starts rebounding at least as well as a high schooler we're going NO WHERE.

Exactly, and if BC gets that extension we're screwed for years. I wish someone on his staff had the balls to point this out to him.

An interesting prospect is Lucas Nogueira

Legit 7 footer, seems like he has the frame to add muscle, extremely athletic. Has Varejao/Noah hair which makes it seem like he loves to rebound

Ford actually has him in the late 20s right now. I'm seeing a top in the 20 roll the dice on him. So probably not an option unless we move up, or his draft buzz skyrockets into top 7 range. It might, Whiteside had buzz that high last year and right now I like Nogueira more

Does Iman Shumpert remind anyone else of Rajon Rondo? I'd take this guy with the Miami pick if he's still available, no questions asked. Stern would just be able to announce the prior pick and ours simultaneously.

Best player in college right now - Terrence Jones. The man has poise and silent swagger and is a very strong rebounder for a SF.

there is really no way you can look at it that makes tjones the best player in college.

funny post considering the timing of the post where TJ is in Cal's doghouse.

Of course you can argue both ways but his consistency in stat-stuffing reminds me of Lebron quite frankly. Not saying that their games are comparable tho.

I don't follow him though, I just watch Youtube highlights and make bold statements.

I haven't been really paying attention to the draft prospects this year outside of Perry Jones, Barnes and Irving, can someone please tell me what the top five options would be for the raptors to draft (if we land a top five pick)

My list is really simple right now

Irving (only true franchise player in the board)
Perry Jones/ Terrence Jones - Best SF that I hear of
Chris Singleton- the jack of all trades, stat stuffing, super defensive SF.

Chris Singleton - ACC Player of the Week

This is the kind of guy we need- he can absolutely take the best scorer of an opposing team out of the game. He's averaging 16/8/2 incluing 3 ORPG, 2 Blocks, 2 Steals. Besides outstanding defense he's getting his team 7 extra posessions per game through the offensive rebounds & turnovers forced. When's the last time we had someone remotely like that?

http://www.seminoles.com/sports/m-baskb ... 11aaa.html

"More importantly was his defense on Blue Devil All-American Kyle Singler who he limited to two points in the first half as Florida State took a 28-24 halftime led - to mark the first time Duke had trailed at the half this season. Singler's two first half points came on a pair of free throws. "

"Once again, most impressive in his performance was his defense on Seminole killer Scott Wood of NC State. In two games last season, the sharpshooter averaged 24.5 points in two Wolfpack wins over the Seminoles. In Saturday's win for the Seminoles he was limited to 10 points as Singleton blanketed him throughout the game. Singleton held the sophomore scoreless with all three of Wood's baskets coming after defensive switches. Until he was taken out of the game with just over five minutes remaining with the victory at hand, Singleton only left Wood's side on defensive switches."

im not sure how long Jimmer can stay under the radar. He is the best scorer in cbb in who knows how long.

Even better than Morrison and JJ.

-----------

the biggest thing about this draft from our perspective is if guys like Perry Jones and Tjones can actually play the 3. IMO, they cant.
