Official 2011/2012 Offseason Thread
just checked the forum directory and didn't see one of these. if there already is one, please link/merge.
I think this summer (post draft), the direction of our team and the roles players will have should be defined. I think that its possible that we let Jay go a year early, and have our new coach come in this summer.
Assuming that we can draft a pg (most likely Irving)
- we try and trade jose for hinrich
- we sign shane battier (if we can't get him, try for prince - that would be much more money though)
- we trade amir johnson + miami first for a signed jeff green
Irving/hinrich/bayless/
demar/hinrich/
green/ battier
ed davis/ ?
bargs / ideally someone good on D - not sure who?
if we draft a 3, then all of this varies a lot.
In this situation, im not sure what pg's we should look at and would love to hear your suggestions. I still think we should sign battier as a veteran 3 to help develop our younger players and be a stud on D.
Also, are there any good backup centres who play good D that could be had for cheap?

the key would be to add players who not only are great defensively, but will help the young blossom into legitimate two-way basketball players.

Would anyone be against drafting Walker if Irving is gone? I see him more of a 2 than a 1. Ben Gordon?

as of now, im not a huge fan of walker. With that said, you cant ignore his outstanding season, so my mind will probably change as conference season picks. He is small, so although im sure he will be able to score in the nba, I dont know how his D will be.
-----------------------
the biggest thing that should be stressed is that DD should be in the gym with hoopla everyday this summer shooting 3's

depends on where we are...if we're top 7 then it'd prolly be a reach but if we somehow end up further down then i wouldn't mind him..another scoring threat beside DD if he were to play SG...

Walker doesn't remind of Ben Gordon?
or were you suggesting we trade for BG?

at this point, im pretty sure we will be drafting top 5. That should give us a pretty good opportunity to draft who we want.

Re: official 2011 offseason thread
Good thread. I was thinking about this last night. My ideal 2011 offseason would look something like this:
1. Starting now, you trade Jose + Dorsey + cash or MIA pick to Atlanta for Bibby + Zaza + ATL pick. Not sure if ATL does this and maybe more detail of the trade should be reworked but there was an apparent rumor on the board about this earlier.
2. a)Trade Bargs to Portland for Greg Oden + PORT pick. This is fair because we take an injured player off their hand while giving them a scoring big and we get their pick.
b) After all of this, our roster would be a disaster but we'd have a ton of cap room and 3 or 4 first round picks (TOR, PORT, ATL & MIA..that's if a pick doesn't get moved to sweeten a deal).
3. Attempt to acquire Jason Thompson. Because of the surplus of bigs on the Kings and JT's potential, I expect this to cost somewhere around Reggie Evans + a first round pick (somewhere along those lines) or Kleiza or both. (since SAC was looking for a SF a while back). Do whatever is reasonable to get him.
4. A sign & trade for Jeff Green in the amount of our current TPE. Maybe we include the ATL pick?
5. Make a GOOD, SOLID attempt at DeAndre Jordan. We'll have the capspace to do it.
6. Draft- Right now it could be Kyrie but I think the "safe" pick will be Barnes. With the Portland pick, we take Brandon Knight.
7. Re-sign Weems and Wright to scrub money..they are after all scrubs.
Our team would be:
Bibby/Bayless/Knight
DeRozan/Barbosa (expiring)/Weems
Green/Wright/Barnes
Thompson/Davis/Amir or Dorsey
Jordan/Zaza/Ajinca/Oden
This looks amazing to me.

seems like too many moves to realistically happen. why is Oden the 4th C?
I would love Oden because of the potential he brings; I don't think portland will let him go and he's such a risk.

Re: official 2011 offseason thread
what do you guys think about kendrick perkins?
what do you think he will cost, and are we at a point where a player like him would be helpful?

Perkins will stay with Boston. Hes part of the future with Rondo there. I dont see him leaving at all.

Yeah lol I gotta admit...that is a LOT of moves. But I have a question I've always wanted to know though. Is there a limit to the amount of moves a GM can make? Seriously I really wanna know

no, but there is a reason why so few moves actually happen.
it takes a lot of work

Ohhh true true. I can see through that. But at the same time, BC is not making the big bucks because MLSE thinks he's cute lol

If Irving is gone, I 'm going with a SF. Jones, Jones or Barnes.....

Re: Official 2011 Offseason Thread
ok so right now lets assume we draft Irving.
this season, trade reggie, barbosa, and weems. not sure if trying kleiza and wright would be possible.
- trade jose and (im not sure what else would be needed, but im sure its something) for hinrich.
- sign shane battier to a 2 year descending contract.
- trade amir johnson + tpe + our second round pick for a signed jeff green
+ sign either chandler/dalemebert/perkins to be our backup C.
irving/ hinrich / bayless
demar / hinrich
green / battier / wright / kleiza
bargnani / ed davis / kleiza
tyson chandler / bargs / ajinca
I know I posted this in the OP, but I really think this is an ideal situation. One where we have a ton of potential for our core to grow, have great veteran leadership, and a promising defensive situation.
please let me know if anything I wrote down is unrealistic.
