4 th quarter letdowns

Post#1 » by schnakenpopanz » Sun Jan 23, 2011 1:50 pm

After the loss to the Pistons I remember 4 games thi season the suns could have eaily won and gave away.
Who is responsible for that?
vs BULLS, vs MEM, @SAC and @DET the record would have been 24-18 and the suns are right in the play off mix.

Is Nash not so clutch as he once was?
Why do we always go to Frye?
Your thoughts?

I think our team jsut ran out of gas. Shots didnt fall, and our defence lacked. There was no energy in the final quarter. That is what lost it for us, not Frye missing the three.

We always go to Frye because he's 6 ft 11 and the ball can be inbounded to him easily. He can also shoot over the top of everybody

I still think Nash is clutch, but we keep going for the 3 when we should go for the tie. Nash is mostly clutch on layups and off the dribble 15-18 footers. Not 3s. And Frye has never hit a game tying/winning 3. Never. But Gentry keeps going to him for some reason.

We don't win as many close 4th quarter games because we have no legitimate paint threat. We have no PnR finsher who puts pressure on the defense. We have no one that demands a double team. We have a bunch of jump shooters that the defense can key in on.

gentry is not a good strategis thats why on close games or blown leads the suns can recover. he goes with the flow type of coach. I blame him for Goran's struggles after He forced goran to play with turk and by limiting his minutes even when goran was playing lights out. Bad coaching plus old personel leads to games like this. Alvin should just man up! and realize that the loss last night was because of his bonehead coaching.

Quite frankly I've never thought Nash was all that clutch. He throws away a lot of balls late in tight games and has trouble getting around guys as they are often allowed to muscle him up more. Someone also offered up the idea once that many times he's tired late in games because he carries such a big load. I think there's a bit of truth to this.

I know that when we got that tech freethrow last night, Gentry wasn't going to switch his play called, but why would he go to Frye in the first place!?

He was 1-11 from the 3pt line, Nash was doubled up, but Carter, Hill, and Dudley all would have been better choices at the time. heck Frye could have just pumped fake and taken a couple of steps or something.

hated that comeback by Sacremento, and we've missed alot of gimme games that we've should have won. we are still in the mix of things so I wouldn't worry too much, but we've just got to maintain these leads.

Nash is TERRIBLE on every last possession - at the end of quarters or even if the shotclock is at 5 seconds he always panics or takes the dumbest jumper - there were times when he and Raja were so effin clutch - it was ridiculous. Three pointer after three pointer at the end of regulation or OT - everything was possible when Steve and Raja were on top of their game.

Of course age is a big factor but also the fact that our dumbass coach keeps playing him 37 minutes a game - what a stupid, stupid man he is. Yesterday, a back-to-back game against a lower team and he still plays him 38 minutes while Dragic just sits on the bench.

Frye is very streaky but it's not really his fault - our coach is very, very limited and stands no chance against experienced top coaches in this league.

We are missing some balls - a Raja Bell type of player who helps Steve handling the ball and motivating the other sleepwalking guys on the court. VINCE CARTER is the exact opposite of that. We used to call Raja the heart of our team - but Carter is the brickmonster of our team.

Also - we should get Amundson back - he is not even playing in Golden State!!
Prediction for this season: Spurs beat Heat 4:2 in the finals (the revenge of Pop)
I don't like it, but it is highly possible this season with IND and OKC struggling

I like the idea of getting Lou back. I don't understand why our best shooters in the games tend to take the least amount of shots, and the guys that are sucking get the green light to brick after brick. Nash needs to be told that if he has a wide open shot, take it. He gave up a wide open three to make a terrible cross court pass that was easily stolen in the first half. At some point, he needs to just take over the game. And Gentry needs to make plays for that to happen. There needs to be screens after screens to get him open if guys guarding him are allowed to have two hands on him. I still can't believe that a guy who is a two time MVP doesn't get calls. Bynum hand checked that whole game he was in, some of those started before half court.

jump shooting teams don't win in crunch time. you're all talking about the last 5 seconds. I'm talking about the last 2 or 3 minutes. With no big to wrestle down low, our team is disgustingly easy to defend.

Frye actually makes sense to me on paper (lord knows he's not hitting them), because he's really our mismatch. A good defensive team will make quick work of anyone we have in crunch time, but he's tricky (ON PAPER).
