Signing Melo as a free agent scenario:

1.Amare Stoudemire
$18,217,705
2.Raymond Felton
$7,500,000
3.Danilo Gallinari
$4,190,182
4.Timofey Mozgov
$2,566,800
5.Toney Douglas
$1,145,640
6.Bill Walker
$916,100
7.Andy Rautins
$788,872
8.Landry Fields
$788,872
9. Melo counts as one...
10,11,12: $490,180 X 3= 1,470,540

Total:37,584,711
Current Cap:58,044,000

I'm going with the absolute best scenario that's realistic. Ronnie is very cheap for his production so it's realistic to assume he can be traded. I included the roster charges and the remaining players.
20,459,289 is available...

Trade Wilson Chandler for 2012 pick
We can trade AR for a future first.
Trade Turiaf (worth more than his 4.3 million dollar contract)
And trade our 2011 first for future consideration

1. I dont think anyones going to give up Picks for Chandler. Hes a Restricted FA who everyone knows we cant keep anyway. Whos going to throw picks at a 2 month rental ? He wants a bidding war for a fat contract.

2. Ronnys production isnt that great that somebodys going to take him off of our hands for free. Everyone knows thats the crucial contract we'd need of the books. Nobodys going to do us any favors without getting something in return.

3. It might cost that Randolph pick to get rid of Turiaf.
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

I am 100% sure, Carmelo will not be traded to the Knicks and remain a Denver Nugget. Donnie is not going to budge. He NEVER did with the Indiana Pacer.

Whenever I hear good news about melo regarding the knicks, I go to the Nuggets board only to become less optimistic again

We need Melo now. You can always get role players, but you can't always get a star player of that magnitude every year.

I think they know he won't resign with them, but they still believe strongly the Nets or someone other than the knicks will get him.

Sure they may trade him somewhere other than NY but I guarantee you he won't sign the extension with that team.

You don't get why people are uneasy about losing 6 in a row, some to bad teams, 8 of 10, and being 1 game above .500? I get some people like to try and stay optimistic, but those who just sit back and think everything is A OK tend to annoy me just as much...... I'm sure you'll wait for us to get our first win in 7 games to chime in and say "seeeee I told you we were fine".....

I don't think the sky is falling or that we won't get back on track..it's actually more the players performances and not just the Ls that are worrisome.. Chandler, Felton, Fields to an extent and Amare as well all aren't showing signs of improving from game to game anymore, to say the least.. at least of late.

1) tyrus thomas got traded for a pick last year and he was entering RFA status. We have been talking the other day about beabois on dallas since they need a SF. It saves about 5 mill (difference between chandler qo and roddys rookie salary)

2) Dallas has a 4 mill tpe right now. I would target that. If we can get that, thats another 4.5 off the books next year (for turiaf)

3) Trade AR for a pick as the rumors are

so if den wont deal with us, donnie should clean some cap space off. saving 10 mil, collecting a pick, and a young player is a good get.

And if he wants to replace the size for this year, trade curry + small chip (2nd rounder? rautins?) for dalembert

Word...I agree with all of that. Not sure if Curry and a 2nd rounder get us Dally. Might have to give two 2nd rounders or someone like Walker but I like that thinking.

The Nuggets have to be talking with the Knicks so secretly right now that the media has no idea about it. Theirs no other teams in the running we know this, the bulls are out, every other team in the NBA other then the Nets has made it clear their not going to trade for him.

I think theirs a deal being worked out behind closed doors.. The Nuggets arent going to ignore us out of spite when theirs 1 month to go before the deadline.

And the Denver Nuggets board is the funniest thing ive ever read. Some of the fans and even mods have said they would rather let him walk to FA so they can save money and get a TE and a pick then get Chandler, Fields, Curry and a pick.

... I try so hard not to read that thread but its so hard not to laugh at the burning denial. The fans think that we have to increase our offer or their just gonna keep him, Like thats really a threat.

Incorrect. You can easily give Turiaf away if you had to, particularly if you pay $3M with him. There would be a long list of teams willing to add what Turiaf brings for $1M, 1 year.

Return to New York Knicks
