Teams don't think "Oh I've got to stop the Knicks from getting Melo. Let's all reject their offer and stand together." They think "I need a big man who can do all the dirtywork and I can get him for the vet min price. I better take it right now before the next team takes it." You'd get a deal in an hour. End of story.

toronto didnt trade vince to NY despite the better offer cuz they didnt want so see him lighting up msg and making them look bad, hence they went with the other offer to a lesser known team

most teams will not want to faciliatate a deal that will label them as the people who helped ny land melo

Fortunately you're not trying to trade Turiaf to most teams. You're trading him to one.

And guess what? All the teams know that you only need one team to take a quality defensive center at a great price. Therefore any of them would be the first to take the offer, rather than let their competitor get him.

This "Everybody stand on principle" thing sounds like it could happen in theory, but guess what again? It never happens in negotiations like this in practice.

This is all going pretty well for us. Our young talent has played pretty well and Denver has backed themselves into a corner. Plus, we've developed some decent backup players in Walker and Williams which will make the loss of a young wing or two easier to swallow.

I think a deal will come soon.

Pretty interesting that a GM would admit that. It says a lot about the feeling of inevitability that is starting to surround Melo to the Knicks.

Also crazy that a GM would admit it given how all the teams are absolutely opposed to it happening according to some people here

Excellent point! People need to realize that teams are going to do what's best for their franchise- period...

Denver really mishandled this one...

ON EDIT:

Denver's best time to trade Melo was in the summer. They should have gauged the interest- set up some offers before they asked him to sign the extension and the minute he said no- that's when they should have shipped him...

1) he makes $2M less than Jeffries did
2) he is a MUCH better player than Jeffries.. PERIOD
3) Turiaf is a big man; Jeffries is not; big man always have more value

Didn't Miami trade a no namer to the Thunder along with a 2nd rounder or something? You didn't see teams holding up Miami to spite them, so they couldn't put together James/Bosh/Wade

Don't forget that unlike jeffries turiaf will only have on year left on his deal. It would be so easy to move him if necessary.

2. i think, the more time the team has with melo, the better. no, we aren't winning the championship this year, but why not make a push anyway?

Because I dont feel young upcoming assets ie, Landry Fields are worth gifting away for a futile push. A push we will make anyway even without Melo.

So we Win 48 Games rather than 43, is that worth giving away starters?

and perhaps most importantly, we'd have some playoff experience under our belts. no one aside from felton and amare (and a little turiaf) has had any substantive playoff experience...obviously guys like gallo and whoever of our core is left after a possible melo trade, they have zero. Hard to chase a championship when most of the team has never even had a playoff game in their lives, much less major minutes in playing in one. Experience is our friend here, i'd say.

We're making the playoffs anyway, we could advance to the 2nd round anyway.....

We have more than exceeded our expectations this season. We 're pretty much a lock for the 6th seed and we even have a fair shot to get to the 2nd round. Lets be patient and enjoy the process.

Samuel Dalembert and a future 1st rounder for:

Sacramento has been rumored to have interest in AR and with this deal they save 4.6 million(insurance from Azub contract+Salary differential).

Obviously, if we can get Melo before the dead AR may not be available for this type of trade...

That's not a terrible idea. The Kings are way under the cap next year so maybe they'd be willing to eat 4 million in cap space to take a chance on AR. Sending them 3 million in cash makes it nice and cheap. Turiaf will practically be free considering they'll barely have to pay for Azu this year.
