I feel this will receive warranted ridicule from every direction because I don't know player value.

To Toronto: Batum, Oden -- possible Fernandez (it works with or without him in the trade checker)
To Portland: Evans, DeRozan -- possible Miami 1st

I like Batum a hell of a lot. He's less than a year older than DeMar, he's a long and athletic 6'8", and he can actually defend the perimeter. Huge upgrade there. And though he's an inconsistent shooter, he can spread the floor better than DeRozan.

Fernandez is coveted around the league even through his struggles. Oden is a RFA(?) and he might be worth a flyer. Evans could replace Camby, Pryz, etc and he's an expiring.

Rule number one when trading: Never trade a young stud for an injury prone dud. Batum is okay but still not quite sure what type of player he is... Is he a spot up shooter? is he a defender? is he an all purpose?

I'd love to get Batum to play alongside DeMar, but no way would I trade DeMar for him and Oden, who may never play a full season.

Oden would be the throw in, not the centrepiece. Batum would be the best player in the deal (or at minimum he's not just "okay" if you label DeRozan a "young stud"). He's probably too much better of a prospect than DeRozan that this deal would constitute anything but a laugh from the Portland GM. I just wouldn't want to send our 1st rounder or Ed Davis and we have nothing else.

Well Batum is the type of player for which I'm happy to jettisson DD. He's clearly the better player in this deal. Plus theres no anti Canada stigma for him to play in a foreign country.

But Ed Davis or our unprotected 1st for Oden is a pretty steep price to pay.

I think it is the other way around especially if you take Fernandez out of there. Oden looks to be another Hakeem and damaged at a young age. So why would MLSEL pay the guy to be in all likelihood an Eddy Curry? Derozan swaps out even with Batum (in theory) although I think the vast majority of GM's would prefer Derozan's scoring potential and upside. So then we furnish them with a first rounder for getting involved and giving them an expiring? The deal clearly favours Portland. I'd rather invest in Derozan getting better on defence and us getting a pick in an expiring Reggie package. This is a waste of time (lateral trade), money (Oden) and a pick (Miami).

I'm pretty impartial either way... I think Flynn might look better running the break, but he's looked absolutely horrendous for Minny this year (33% from the field, 29% from 3, 69.2% from the line, 4.3pts/2.3assists in 16.5 mpg).

Would You Package Davis for 1st Pick?

Post#614 » by marcwagz » Mon Jan 24, 2011 1:54 am

Ed Davis looks like he could be a legitimate starting Power forward
But BC will want to keep bargnani.

Bargnani can't stay at C, he has to be moved to PF to cover for his defensive lapse.

So we can't keep both of these guys...

As much as I'm liking davis i think it would be wise to maybe package him with our first and maybe even miami's first to ensure we get a first overall?

anyone else think that makes sense?

Moving Bargnani to PF will cover his defensive woes?

Really?

Moving Bargnani to a different team would help our defensive woes

We have a legitimately talented power forward that is defensively capable. Given time to develop, i think he could be an all-star, and a strong piece on a contender. I wouldn't package that for anyone in the upcoming draft, but maybe that's just me.

I would probably trade Ed Davis for Washington, Minni or New Jerseys pick ...

it would sting a little bit but IMO you go for it.

you potentially leave draft night with the top 2 prospects, that's unheard of...

Quite likely that New Jersey will be picking ahead of us by June.
