Expectations For This Year

Post#1 » by Jimmy76 » Sun Jan 23, 2011 6:35 pm

Looks like it'll be a definitively be a down year just wondering what you all want/expect from this year.

For me at this point winning more games than we lose would make me satisfied given the horrible start.

I have none anymore. Winning 40 games at this point is probably what to expect.

As of now? picking between #10-14 in the draft or possibly higher if they win the lotto and land a top 3 pick.

If the Nuggets trade Melo there's a slight chance that opens up a playoff spot and they might be able to grab the #8 seed but it's going to be a race between the the Grizzlies, Rockets, Warriors and Clippers...

Top 4 in the West and going deep in the playoffs. I really believe that this team can get it done, I really believe in these guys. Most of you people think it was Amare who made the Suns reached deep in the playoffs last season but for me it was the bench. Our bench now is starting to get it together along with Gortat getting all these double-doubles no doubt this team can make some noise in the playoffs. We all know our starters can get it done and the only person I'm worried about is LOPEZ and BTW I'M NOT CRAZY, I JUST REALLY AND TRULY BELIEVE IN THIS TEAM AND I'M SURE MOST OF YOU PEOPLE DIDN'T BELIEVE THE SUNS WOULD REACH THE WEST FINALS LAST SEASON. LET'S GO SUNS!!!!!!!!!

They should try everything they have to get that 8th seed, cause I'd rather have at least 2 more playoff games at home than picking 12-14 instead of 15-18. Those picks are all the same if you know how to pick, good scouting is what matters.

Unless we make a trade that changes the team in a profound fashion and fixes the roster or simply put it all together ins omse Cinderella fashion (which I think highly improbable) I think we need t resign ourselves to a building year, hope we get lucky in the lotto and use the contracts and picks we have to improve for next year. No sense sugarcoating it - this is going to hurt

 Green Font?

The bench is terrible this year... did you watch last nights game?

Unless some sort of miracle happens (:cough: trade for ZBO :cough:) we will probably just miss the playoffs this year and end up with a high lotto pick....

phungk why the hell would you want Zach Randolph who's a poison to every team. Really don't care about his double-doubles he isn't the only player in the league who can achieve that. He's a chemistry killer

I stick with my predictions from just after the trade. I think we're a 7th-8th seed if we continue to gel. But any higher will be difficult without a trade for a legit PnR threat at the PF position. With a PnR PF, I think we can be in the middle of the pack.

Hollinger has the Suns at 10.2% to make the playoffs. That's about right.

good news is there's a ton of pf's in this upcoming draft, as long as Nash doesn't really fall off and we get our offseason right we may be able to bounce back pretty quick

on that note it wouldn't be that horrible if Nash decided he had to take the year off to psychologically cope with the divorce

Is it true that should there be a lockout next season, there will be a whole different drafting order for the year after?

I'm just curious to see what happens at the deadline. Other than that, it's a matter of building chemistry. Whatever happens, happens. I still expect a 7th or 8th seed, because if Carmelo gets dealt, Denver will drop out.

I just think we can slip into the playoffs because the bottom playoff teams just aren't that good this season. Certainly not 50 win teams like we've seen in recent history so we could slip in and even make 7th if we can get things together.

No way. I think we have at least a 30% chance of making playoffs. We still have Nash, and we now have a good rebounding center in Gortat, something we have never had before. Our bench IS finding some sort of rhythm now, and Gentry has stuck to a rotation.

I'm not saying we will definitely make the playoffs, but by god are we going to going work our asses off getting there.

Realistically, there are six teams playing for one playoff spot, Clippers, Warriors, Suns, Rockets, Grizzlies and either the Blazers or Nuggets whichever falters. The Suns are mid pack now so say 1 in 6 or 16%. The problem is the Suns just aren't that good and the pieces really aren't there to get a whole lot better.

Nash and Hill can't really play any better. Likely they'll decline given their age and minutes played. In years past Nash has struggled in the later part of the year. That happens and playoffs are almost certainly over. How about Carter? Not much hope there. He's old and slow with knees that aren't getting any better. He's scoring but with rather poor efficiency and his inability to get to the free throw line is killing the team. Largely as I expected. Flashes of what once was but overall a downgrade.

The only hope I see is Lopez and Dragic. If Lopez can somehow get his spring back that would definitely be a huge plus. But we're so far into the season it's highly unlikely. And Dragic could help but Gentry refuses to use him. The lose in Detroit being only the most recent case in point. And I won't even go on about Gentry. His coaching has spoke volumes, and not in a good way.

So. yes, 10% seems fair to me. If you'd like optimism you should go to this article over at the Bright Side. Lots of cheerful thinking just don't look for much realism.

Hey, it could be worse. Basketball reference has the Suns odds at making the playoffs at 4.9%.

Hollinger's odds don't incorporate how Denver will likely dismantle the whole team and Portland with whatever's left of their team will also probably deal miller and camby when healthy, so.

Yup - I hope these guys continue to build a team out of what they have and work hard, I'm just not going to be all broken yup if no miracle materializes. I don't see this team overachieving like last year's, is all.
