Really?

Moving Bargnani to a different team would help our defensive woes

thread isn't about bargnani's defensive woes, fyi

It was part of your reasoning for trading Davis though.

How about instead of Davis, we trade Bargnani and keep Davis at PF?

Kyrie Irving + Ed Davis >>>>>>>>>>>> Kyrie Irving + Andrea Bargnani.

If it solidified a healthy Irving as our pick, I would without a doubt do it.

We still have a young Amir Johnson to play PF for us, so I'm not overly concerned about it.

Throwing in the Miami pick is kind of going overboard, since we're already giving them a top 5 pick AND a lottery pick from the previous year.

However.......I'm hoping we luck out & win the 1st overall pick so that we can add Irving to compliment Davis.

BTW OP, you shouldn't have mentioned AB's name. People are completely obsessed with the guy. This thread will be completely derailed now....

If it's for Kyrie Irving, sure. I don't wanna give up too much though

edit: Davis + our first rounder would be too much

I just realized that the OP would want us to package both our picks WITH Ed Davis as well ....

that changes everything.

I would only do that if a healthy Irving came back to play in March Madness and was a solidified #1 pick.

But the OP is about redundancy and improving the Raptors. I'd say keep Ed and if this isn't just an injury-induced slump (in which case why is he playing at all?), Bargs for a 6th man?

We're now the worst defensive team in the league for the second year running. Never say never, but I'd be very careful about trading one of the only players we have who can play D.

OP says no dice, the rules to this thread are that BC doesn't budge on Bargnani.

It depends on where you rank Ed in comparison to the prospects in this draft. Where would Ed be drafted this year? Pretty high, I'd think. Unless we got Kyrie and wanted to snag Derrick Williams or Terrence Jones as well, I'd think long and hard about it.

Since Bargnani isn't going anywhere, and since we're not sure ED and Bargs can ever be a formidable frontcourt, and since we have our backup PF in place (Amir), it makes some sense to look to move ED to get help. But if it's for a draft pick, it has to be a top flight player, not some project big man. Otherwise, just a centre already playing in the league.

I absolutely would trade Davis for the 1st pick if it meant getting Irving..

I'd only trade him for Clevelands 1st pick.

Learn from the most recent history, which is the New Jersey Nets. They had the worst record by far, but dropped from potential #1 pick to #3 in the lottery.

I think when the OP says "1st pick", he actually means "the first overall pick".

Davis + our high first for the first overall pick would be a yes in my books. Trading a potential role player (albeit a fantastic one) and a question mark for a potential superstar, assuming Irving declares and would report to TO, is a no brainer. You see how these supremely athletic PGs can single handedly affect the outcome of games. And he'd make us instantly exciting and watchable.

With Davis gone, I'd want Bargs gone just for the sheer ability of the franchise to go in an entirely different direction that could prove very positive. His offence wouldn't be depended on like it is now. Calderon would also be very expendable. Obviously it'd be great if Kleiza got shipped off as well.

Irving would equal a true rebuild and the possibility of a bright future.

If you accept the premise that we'll never move Bargs...not unreasonable...then yes, by all means trading away our only young talent with actual potential should probably be on the table.

Davis is showing good signs, keep him. Our pick should be a top 5 anyway.

Ignoring for a second the whole Bargnani moving to PF would cover his defensive lapses thing. There's some pretty massive variables that are being left out of the equation here that need to be answered.

What pick do we have in this scenario? What do these prospects look like post march madness (is it looking deeper then currently)? What does Ed Davis look like after the end of the season? Is he looking like Horford v2.0? What are the teams in front of ours needs (Washington)?

I mean if Ed Davis is putting up a PER of 18+ with good D and looking like the next Horford by the end of the year, and say T Jones, and P Jones are looking like pretty comparable prospects to Irving after March, and we have the 2nd pick then I'm not going to do it. If Irving is looking like the best by far in teh draft come March, and we are stuck with the 8th pick, and Davis looks mediocre for the rest of the season then I would.
