We might have a top 5 pick, but we might not get Irving.

This is a good question, but I'll decide once seeing who declares for the upcoming draft first.

BTW, I'm not nearly as crazy on Irving as this board seems to be. More Terrel Brandon than CP3.

The draft in general looks bleak right now...Perry Jones is the only guy I see with super upside, and he's really lowered my expectations too.

^ Of course you would. But that's not realistic. No team would ever trade away a Tim Duncan type talent. How about CP3, or D-Will?

To Memphis:
Reggie Evans

To Toronto:
Hasheem Thabeet

Memphis can use Reggie's rebounding and get rid of Thabeet who is clearly not in their future plans.
Raps take a chance on a center who is only playing 9 minutes a game. They get younger.

To NY:
Amir Johnson
Sonny Weems
Joey Dorsey
1st round pick(Miami)

To Toronto:
Wilson Chandler
Anthony Randolph
Roger Mason Jr

Amir fits good beside Stoudemire. Gives Fields and Galinari more touches on offence. NY adds a pick.
Toronto auditions Chandler and Randolph. Mason is expiring.

Raps Roster:

C- Thabeet/Ajinca/Alabi
PF- Bargnani/Davis/Randolph
SF- Chandler/Kleiza/Wright
SG- Derozan/Barbosa/Mason
PG- Calderon/Bayless/Gaines

Sorry, im a big believer in the talent you know is always better than the talent you don't. (unless the talent you know isn't that good to begin with)

But Ed seems far to valuable in my mind. Anyone not named Demar/Ed/Bayless is moveable at any point in my mind.

^ I somewhat agree with what you are saying, but the Jays don't win 2 workd series if they don't trade 2 very talented players in Fernandez & McGriff.....

This situation is obviously different, but there have been many times where bold moves have completely turned sports franchises around.

You look at the trade Detroit made with us to acquire Billups. They don't win Championships without him...

Those are the types of schrewd moves that take your team to the next level.

On the flip side (agreeing with you), this is exactly the reason we need to hold onto Bayless for a few years. If we don't trade Billups, it would have changed the franchise. The same could be said for us keeping Boogie Williams rather than trading him for Danny Fortson. Both of these guys were late bloomers & turned into good players.

The one thing they both had in common was a warrior mentality & solid defense. I see the same traits in Bayless. He's not there yet, but he has the right makeup. Maybe something "clicks" 2 years from now. Hopefully he's still with the Raptors when it does....

it would sting a little bit but IMO you go for it.

you potentially leave draft night with the top 2 prospects, that's unheard of...

Why not package Bargnani, why is he so untouchable? I would take defense over offense anytime, at least with Ed if his shot is not going (once he develops one) he will play defense on the other end, rebound and block shots (as opposed to pout and feel sorry for himself).

I'd trade Bargs before Davis.

Because that's not what this thread is about. There are another 2000 Bargnani threads you can talk about this in.

well I doubt BC would want to trade his prior first overall draft pick.

Also, would any team want to take on bargnani's contract, would that really be an incentive to give up their first round pick?

can't wait for Kyrie to be as bad as Jose at defense. That would be the ultimate irony.

even if he is (which he doesn't scout to be) he is young so he could actually still learn.
Plus he would be faster then Jose could ever be anyways.

Not this year, but I'd give up whatever assets we have for next years no.1.
Miller, Gilchrist, Davis etc..stacked draft.

Tough call.

Even Irving is not a guarantee. Ed Davis (after what he's shown with his fantastic rebounding rate and solid defense/shotblocking) would probably go top-5 himself in this draft.

I guess it comes down to where our own 2011 pick ends up. If we end up with the number 2 pick, then I wouldn't do it. Having Ed Davis + Perry Jones is probably more of a guarantee than just Irving. If we end up dropping to #7 or something, then yes, but I doubt any team would trade us their first overall pick for Ed Davis and a #7 pick.

So the whole question may be moot.

Or we could just trade Bargs and keep our draft steal and future defensive anchor.

No, I mean SAC says that. Landry at least gives OKC a real PF.

SAC gets fed a poo poo platter of Calderon's 9.8mil + 10% trade kicker, Watson's 3.4mil, Dorsey's cap hold and the 30st pick in the draft guaranteed deal heading into a lockout. Plus they give up an expiring and productive player to rid themselves of Udrih.

I'm sure the Maloofs would be absolutely stoked!

Bargnani should easily be the guy dealt over Davis, no question.

As for the OP' squestion, probably not. Irving is the only guy I think you consider doing it for and even that it dicey.

Good teams are made up of multiple players. As great as a young stud is, he needs guys around him. Ed's locked in as our future 4 to me.

Yup.
actually, wait, no... any old pick in the first would do.
it'd be best to leave the picks out of this.
