Re: [Camelo Thread Part 12] - Maybe its time
I'm still holding out hope that Ujiri doesn't want to be known as the GM who let 2 star players go in FA, knowing fully well that both intended to leave.
But then again, part of me is wondering if he's just flat out incompetent and hasn't learned his lesson with Bosh. I get the sense that he thinks he can still convince Melo to stay, or strongarm him into an extension with the new CBA looming...yet I don't see the benefit for that franchise in having a disgruntled superstar. He's like the husband who refuses to sign the divorce papers cause he's still holding out hope for the marriage to be rekindled.

And Walsh didn't appear to be panicking over his team's current problems - they have matched their season-long sked - and gave no indication he's ready to break up the team by acquiring Anthony.
"We've played better in the last two games," Walsh said, referring to weekend losses in San Antoni and Oklahoma City. "When you get in a period where you're losing, there has to be games where you play better and you might lose, but you show you're playing better. And good things will start happening. I thought that a little bit against the Spurs. But I thought we played much better against Oklahoma City and we probably should have won that game. I'm hoping it gets us on the right track."

I'd really like to trade for him now...but if there's a way to keep Wilson, Gallo, Fields, Walker, TD, AR our own first and GS's second rounder....we could field one of the most talented rosters in the NBA. I don't think AR is realistic with all the rumors we here about him moving him for a pick and the fact MDA won't play him but the other assets we'd have would push us to a top 3 team in terms of talent and maybe even value. Draft a guard and a long, rangy forward (in the AR mold ironically) with our picks. Sign a ring chaser or two and we are set.
Amare....he is a center here. Period.
Melo....this is how Mike is gonna run it...he can have size off the bench.
Gallo....keeps things honest. The system incarnate.
Fields...the glue.
Felton....til 2012 then ask me again.
Wilson...if not used in a sign and trade, he'd be our super-utility guy.
TD...hopefully we get a real back up pg and TD can be used as more of a change of pace guy as opposed to him being our primary ball-handler off the bench.
AR...or whatever we trade him for....it's a shame too.
first round pick...a guard. Someone hopefully that pushes Toney down a bit on the depth chart.
Our coach has been more comfortable playing young guards than young big men. Ex: Brandon Knight, Kemba Walker, Lacedarius Dunn, Demetri McCamey.
second round pick....someone long that can play inside...and since we are talking for D'Antoni, a little bit outside too. Ex: Renardo Sidney, JaJuan Johnson, Jeremy Tyler, etc.
Walker..has been a pro here. No gripes or sad faces on the bench. Fits what we do. Cheap and young.
Williams...We gave him a career back. He can give us a fair price for his services.
Jerome Jordan..we still own the rights to the Black Russian. He screams serviceable.
ring chaser #1: DJ Mbenga...why not?
ring chaser #2: Jason Williams...and somehow you know he'd end up starting a few games WITH Felton before the season ends.
That's a really, really good team.

Re: [Camelo Thread Part 12] - Maybe its time
Denver is in a tough spot. They know Carmelo only wants to go one place (presumably) and they don't think the Knicks have the pieces to make a deal for him (multiple picks and young cheap talent signed for the long-term).
However, if they have been unresponsive to the Knicks as much as the media is saying, that is a terrible job by Denver. Ujiri should be working with Donnie Walsh so Donnie could get the pieces Denver actually wants in a trade. Unless some team is willing to pay out the ass for a rental, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to be shutting the Knicks out of conversations entirely.

It's absolutely amazing how much when one really needs to believe something, one can convince himself so.
But then again this is the same guy that first thought, there'd be no reason for Melo to want to leave, then...when he wanted to leave...that there'd be no reason for him to not want to go to NJ, then....when he didn't want NU...that there's no proof that he wants NY. Even when he ends up here he's going to be insisting that Melo didn't really want to come here and was forced by aliens to do so.

There's a reason I stopped going to other team's boards. They are going to think what they want to think and there's no stopping 'em.

Donnie I know you're trying to stay calm and humble but can we just get Melo already. I'm tired of this thing dragging on.

Problem is that Melo is not "Helen of Troy" and you just can't kidnap him in the middle of the night. It takes two to tango.

Exactly... It began precisely when the Melo talks intensified 2-3 wks ago...
Honestly, I think they may just keep him. Melo made a comment that Denver' GM knows what he wants to do. They are annoying me so much that I hope they decide to keep him. And I can't wait for him to sign for a little less as did Lebron, Wade and Bosh(2.6 million in the first season to be exact).
I would make a Turiaf, AR, Azub, Mason and 3 million in cash(that totals 6 million in savings+ whatever Dal's contract saves them) for Dalembert and a future 1st. They get a player with a ton of Talent and promise-that will be better than anything in the 2011 draft in terms of potential.
The trade would make us slightly better and put us in position to sign Melo out right. Who cares what Denver wants to do. I understand that their fans are hurt because deep down they know he is leaving but they are in denial and delusional. They are going to lose him for nothing. I'm sure Melo passed on to Stat that he will wait and Donnie knows. With that trade we will have roughly 20 million in cap space by seasons end...

Thanks Michael. Just for that compliment, I'll share with you - and only you - the REAL inside scoop on the Melo deal: Denver has time to wait if the Knicks are the only team that really has any chance with an extension. So they're not in any hurry to make something happen and instead wants to solidify a playoff berth as best as they can before they are forced to make a move. Shhhh, don't tell anyone.

Roy :
Let' say the knicks get melo for gallo fields curry and picks. How far into the spring do you think they could go? I think they could beat the bulls and magic but not the celtics and heat.
Monday January 24, 2011 11:10
Alan: Actually, Roy, let's say they get him for Chandler, Gallinari, Curry, Azubuike and picks and Melo and Al Harrington come in the deal. Gits and shiggles. I think they could beat the Bulls, Magic and Celtics. Still would be tough to beat the Heat in a seven-game series. But talk about high-scoring games....
