Ricky Rubio
I know I'm probably beating a dead horse.
I'm not on the "Rubio is the next Jerry West" bandwagon like some, but I'm highly intrigued by this kid.
If he's truly not interested in EVER playing for Minny, what do you feel is a fair deal? To tell you the truth, Minny probably wouldn't want Harris and I'm not willing to give up Favors or Lopez in the deal which complicates it.
If you want Rubio, what do you think is a fair deal.
Depending on where we pick in the lotto and who is available, I'm willing to offer our 2011 #1 and either the Lakers or Rockets picks we own. Do I think that gets done? Depends on who is available draft night, but I don't think that's unreasonable even though Minny fans and management seemed to believe so when he came up in the past.
Either way, if we're looking to help make a bang without crippling long term potential of the team, it's definitely something to explore. I just think right now as "unrealistic" as some fans think when discussing Rubio, I think we have a better shot at him than CP3 or Deron. Of course, this could always change pretty quickly.

Re: Ricky Rubio
I don't especially like Rubio, I think he's terribly overrated and has basically regressed.
I wouldn't be willing to give up much more then Devin in a 3 team deal and some late picks like the Rockets or Lakers one, or at worst the GSW pick.
Probably not enough to make Kahn blink, he would look like a fool trading him for a meager return at this point even if he isn't currently worth much, there's a good chance Kahn risks his job on this one and goes down with the ship, unless maybe he can trade him to the Clippers for their unprotected 2012 and some other minor incentive, or expand the deal with something like Wes Johnson or Beasley going to LAC as well for the Clippers 2011 pick depending on where that lands.

Kahn can't trade him, unless its for a top 2 pick. He simply can't, or else he's out of a job.

I wouldn't go as far as top 2 pick, I mean the guy was drafted 5th overall two years ago and he acquired the pick itself for straight up peanuts.
I do understand the casual fan not understanding aspect, but if he could bring back a good young player or a top 10ish pick who happens to look good and exciting I think he'll be fine.
I just think Kahn's ego maybe too big although, I have also thought the following for awhile...
Everyone with common sense understands Rubio never wanted to be drafted by or play for Minnesota, along with multiple other teams but Kahn decided to draft him anyway.
Even if he starts his career with Minny, I think it's a one year pit stop.
If anything I think Kahn may have taken a calculated risk with Rubio, to use him as a future trade asset because they were able to acquire said pick so cheaply from Washington.
He took Flynn because that's who he believed was BPA and he passed on others because he didn't like any of them specifically as players and felt Rubio's rights would be much more valuable in trade then said players.
Now we'll get to see whether Kahn's bet will pay off or blow up in his face exploding cigar style.

Re: Ricky Rubio
Rubio intrigues me but he has huge bust potential. I'd take a shot on him only for the fact that he is a global icon and still has potential. He scares the hell out of me though with his lack of shooting and defense.
I most definitely wouldn't give up our 2011 #1 for him but I'd take a shot with the GS pick and either the LA or HOU pick for him.
If Kahn thinks he's getting equal return for him he's crazy. Rubio has all the leverage here (man that sounds familiar) he could stay in Europe, live like a king, and make more money instead of playing for a place he doesn't want to be making rookie scale money.
I'm thinking best case he could be Nash with Kidd's jumper.

Isn't that just Kidd with no defense?

I agree with everything but the bolded parts.. The only thing he may have in common with Nash and Kidd is speed, but thats it. He doesnt have the defense, the play making ability or court vision. Sure you might see on youtube every now and then some nice pass or something. But the way he plays will not translate to success in the NBA.

I don't know where the no-defense reputation has come from on this kid, but I think Rubio's on-ball defense is good. Not great, but good. His size and skills will translate to the NBA far better than his Eurostats suggest.
I wouldn't mind having him as our PG-of-the-future if we're moving toward afull rebuild. But I'd want to dump salary onto MIN in the process, like Devin+TrOut...

I think they have to trade him, can't keep a player that doesn't want to play for your team

If by good you mean better than you and myself, than maybe yes. And another thing I cant stand about him is what a spoiled little punk he is. His parents are telling Minnesota that he wont play for them, really? How old is this guy? Wheres his independence and responsibility? When youre drafted to any major sports league in the USA its an honor. You cant be crying about who drafted you. Suck it up, play out at least your rookie contract then cry about what team you want to play for. If he has an attitude like that I cant see how hed be a critical player in the league. My comparison is a poor mans Jose Calderon, and that being generous compared to my first post in this thread....

Re: Ricky Rubio
His defense will be good against shooting guards and slower point guards, but the Chris Paul's, Derrick Rose's and Russell Westbrook's of the league are going to eat him alive.
Then again, who don't they eat alive?
And a poor man's Jose Calderon is way harsh IMO, but I don't see the star everyone else is either.

Like stated before, Rubio is terribly overrated... I mean the guy doesn't have anything like a jump shot, he's 3 point percantege is horrible for a PG, he has a decent drive to the basket and solid defence, but there are plenty of European PG's who are better then him still playing in Europe imho... Guys like Teodosic for example...
He wouldn't improve any team in the NBA imho... He plays in Barcelona only couse he's Rubio. If he got benched, Barca wouldn't have a problem winning most their games..
