Old school: Malone's 45pts on the Lakers [1990]

Post#1 » by Imadogg » Tue Jan 25, 2011 7:49 am

April 12th, 1990. Karl and Stockton's Jazz vs Magic, Worthy and the Lakers. Every single one of Karl Malone's efficient 45pts. Stockton had 23 assists that game.

Bonus:

Karl Malone's game-winning 3 from the previous Jazz/Lakers meeting (with Karl's commentary on it)

Didn't see that game up on youtube so figured I'd cut out Mailman's highlights and upload. Thought Jazz fans might appreciate it so posted here. If this doesn't go here, my bad. Hope you guys enjoy

Thanks for the videos.

Does anyone else think that perhaps the best starting lineup change is to move Jefferson to the bench? In watching these videos, the thought came to me that perhaps Jerry is not letting Milsap have enough freedom to go out and make something happen. If you move Okur back to the starting lineup, then it opens up the middle for Milsap to become a "go to" guy. I tend to think that right now the best thing we can do is improve Milsap's confidence, and unfortunately, I think Jefferson's game doesn't mesh with Milsap.

Thoughts?

Thanks, dogg. That game was about two years before my time, so it was a really enjoyable watch. Prime Malone was unguardable... and those Magic and Worthy guys weren't bad themselves. :)

Its a shame they didnt get to the Finals with that team. They had an awful lot of Talent on that squad. They were young and Karl was still throwing it down. They were too old when they got to the finals.

They weren't too old. Age had nothing to do with them losing in the Finals. The first year, they got beat- the next year, they were handcuffed by Sloans system and inability to adapt to Jackson's ways.

John Stockton. John Stockton for God's sakes got yanked halfway through the first and third quarters every game because it was the exact same rotation that Sloan had used during the season.

What were we protecting his legs and wind for? The Finals after the Finals? Was he gonna have to play another series? You think Stockton wouldn't have voluntarily worn himself to complete exhaustion in order to get that ring? There was at the absolute most 7 games to go and a whole summer to rest. Sloan decided he needed rest in the Finals. Just in case... ya know?

That wasn't nearly the only (Please Use More Appropriate Word) move by Sloan in those 2 Finals series. Just the biggest one. I still wanna cry when I think about it.

Awesome videos thanks!

Is it just absolutely scary to anyone else that Griffin as a rookie is dang near as good as Malone was in his prime? Crazy man! Malone was an absolute unguardable beast, and Stockton had the most crazy 6th sense for the game. What I was most impressed with was how Malone ran the floor EVERY SINGLE PLAY. Ran on fast breaks, ran to get back on defense, he was just into it unlike any of the bigs we have now.

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...
