If we weren't already deep in relief with all the offseason acquisitions then I wouldn't mind it. But I like Napoli and think he could be the John Buck of last year but better.

This has to be a precursor towards a bigger move, else, it is a horrible trade for the jays.

Wow the Jays forum is getting busy.

We don't normally have 4 threads on one trade. Everyone is out looking for the next scoop, I love it.

I wonder if AA is trying to get some extra funds in the budget for a big name player.

Francisco is a good reliever, but Napoli brings much more value as a power hitting bat that can play multiple positions (CA/1B). That type of power is not easy to find, especially from a player who could catch a few times a week. Napoli in Texas is going to explode offensively. Francisco is probably the Jays closer at this point. I would imagine this means Frasor is gone (traded after being signed), otherwise there will be a huge logjam in the pen.

If cash is involved then it looks like a cost cutting move. Talent-wise, I would much rather have Napoli, and it's not even close. I guess Rogers really wants to save as much as possible this year. Or AA has something else in mind.

At this point its a 3 man race for closer with Dotel/Rauch/Francisco. Not a bad situation of course, but still would of liked to see Napoli suit up for us.

Well this is a really stupid trade. No other way to put it.

More like save as much money as possible every year. Your discussion yesterday about Rolen made me realize just how cheap the Jays are. In two years, they've traded or waived their four best players (Halladay, Rios, Rolen, Wells), and before that, they didn't even try to go the extra mile to contend with them in 2008 and 2009. I really hope they re-invest all of this money on the 2012 roster, but the team has been saying 'next year" for quite a few seasons now, so who knows what to expect.
