Possible Trade

Post#1 » by IVSKIN » Thu Jan 17, 2008 11:41 pm

I just heard on TSN that the Flames and Habs are working out a trade involving Tanguay and Ryder.

I imagine we would have to give up picks or prospects, but I would still like this trade. Flames need to clear Cap Space, and Montreal could use Tanguay in a playoff push.

I would kill for that trade but we would probably have to send one of our young talents with Ryder. Hopefully nothing too drastic, maybe a goalie? This would be big for us!

I doubt Calgary would want a goalie from us, unless it's Price. They just signed Cujo as their backup, and have 2 young prospects of their own. I'm not sure who I would be willing to give up (prospect wise), but I hope they work something out

I wouldn't put any stock in this rumour. Gainey never reveals his hand. It's can also be noted that Calgary hasn't been scouting the Habs. Also, I find it hard to believe the Flames would accept a struggling UFA for Tanguay, who's signed for another year. He also has a no-trade clause.

I don't think Tanguay would mind coming to Mtl though, so his no trade clause isn't really a problem. Also, look at what Mike Ribiero did with Dallas... teams will look at that and believe that Ryder just needs a scenic change much like Ribiero did. The reason the Flames would want to get rid of Tanguay is to get his salary off the cap so they can resign key big pieces this offseason (or earlier). With Ryder going the opposite way and becoming an unrestricted free agent that takes the full 5 mill/year that Tanguay will make next year off the cap and gives them tons of room to resign their guys.

Anyways, like you said... I doubt there is much truth to the matter, but it would still be a nice deal for both clubs in different ways imo.

Anything is possible and the Habs can't hurt themselves by adding talent. My question is where would Tanguay play? We already have Andrei K and Higgins on the left side. IO can't see either one of them being uprooted to a checking line in favour of Tanguay. That means either Tanguay plays on a checking line which is a lot of dough for that role or he goes back to center and replaces Slominski.

I think the most reasonable idea would be to move him to the C position. As we all know, it's not like it is a strong point of ours (winning face-offs) and as Smolinski was supposed to be our "Saviour" this season in the face-off circle... he's done nothing to support that role. So it wouldn't hurt us at all moving Tanguay to the C position. There is no way I would want to move Higgins or Andrei K either, as they are both huge for us.

I agree, Tanguay would have to move over to the Center position, which wouldn't bother me at all.

This trade would be a straight salary dump, and would likely require a prospect as well. Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything new about this.

The problem I see is that Tanguay is a leftie and Gainey has made it known he'd want a rightie center. Tanguay also hasn't played center for a very long time...pre-lockout. I actually hope this deal doesn't happen. I'd rather get a RW to replace Ryder or a veteran D.

To be completely honest I don't think we need any more defencemen. We need a first or second scorer... we have plenty of Dmen right now.

We may have plenty of d-men right now, but quantity doesn't = quality. I'd much prefer to see someone other than Streit, O-Byrne or Brisebois on the 2nd pairing with Hamrlik. Defence wins. I'd love to get a rent-a-D like Foote or Blake.

I kind of agree with everyone here. I would love to get Tanguay, but I would also like to get a solid D-man.

We just need to get rid of Ryder, he isn't picking it up, so do both the Habs and Ryder a favor and just move him.

Having Tanguay on this team would make him the highest payed player on the team next year,
Do we really want that?
If we get a center instead, who do we bump?
Koivu,Lapierre or smolinsky?
Smolinsky has a no trade clause and Lapierre has been playing good hockey and Koivu......No comments on him

You can start with McDonagh coming to Calgary.
