Optimism!

Post#1 » by KAHN_SWITCH » Wed Jan 26, 2011 5:18 am

Hey All,
I'll just start off by saying that iv'e been reading realgm for a while and have finally decided to show my support to the team by creating an account, sharing my opinions of the game and share my love for the Timberwolves!

I live in Melbourne, Australia so i don't get to see a whole lot of Tmberwolves games due to our television networks favouring playoff teams and big market teams to broadcast live games, but i do my best to keep up to date with Timberwolves games via various online streams, highlights etc...

Last season i lived the boyhood dream of making the journey over to Minnesota to watch my beloved Timberwolves play contrary to the cab drivers thoughts "Your crazy man, you came all the way from Australia to watch the Timberwolves play?" I got to see three games first the Rockets which we lost where we got scorched from the perimeter any schocks? the second being the Mavericks where Al Jefferson dominated in the paint for a 30-10 game but still lost and thirdly the Nuggets when we played well but blew it in the last quarter any shocks still??

On my way home i also got to see a Lakers vs Timberwolves game in LA which we played well but still didn't come home with the chocolates.

But nonetheless I just wanted to intoruce myself and say keep the faith with this group of guys, i noticed that when we win the optimism from Timberwolves fans and other nba fans is evident. I do prescribbe to Kurt Rambis' theory of development is not only measured by wins/loses but by ball movement and individual development. Sure we are going through a rough patch at the moment but there is light at the end of the tunnel imo.

We have great pieces, it will all come together, i would rather us lose games now rather than in finals games when it really counts. I have faith in both Kahn and Rambis, all it takes is time!!!

Thanks Guys/Girls for reading this hopefully we can get a win against OKC fingers crossed!!!!

Welcome, and great to have another fellow Aussie on board! Im from Brisbane, Queensland - and didnt get flooded!

I have been a Wolves fan since the Luc Longley days, loved Chritian Laettner, Tom Googs, Malik Sealy, Sam Cassell, Garnett of course, now a Brewer supporter (which most people here cant stand).

This season has been a frustrating one, but still some light at the end of the tunnel.

Lets get a win against the Thunder and hopefully turn this season around...I think everyone if almost 100% healthy...

welcome man, from new zealand myself...i'm sure you know this already by now - but you should probably keep any razor blades out of reach during games and prepare to get some anger management therapy.

change the name to any of our guys and make it t'wolves lose and this is pretty much me during/after every game  :x

Thanks Ice,

Your pretty lucky to have avoided the floods! NW Victoria got flooded, but it hasnt really affected Melbourne, but still pretty crazy weather for this time of the year.

I haven't always been a Timberwolves supporter, i used to go for the Charlotte Hornets just like every kid back in the day. I was hornets until i was walking through the local sports store with dad when i saw a Isiah Rider jersey on the rack, i was intrigued! i said to dad can i have this jersey? he says" dont you like Hornets anymore?" im like naaaa Timberwolves are better!!!! he just said ok but once you change thats it your Timberwolves forever, i was like sweet.

So it all really started in the 94-95 season for me, Riders, googs, laets, west marshall to some extent!

I can see us getting much better in post all star break, J Flynn!

I've been watching the Wolves since about 92. *shrug* i've seen a lot worse. I'd still bleed T'Wolf even if we went 0-82.

This team reminds me a lot of the early KG/Googs/Marbury teams where we play tough for 46min and the last 2 min is a real life 40min rollercoaster of emotion that ends in heartbreak.

Welcome, i'm from Melbourne myself and more-so daily-lurker than poster. Awesome to hear about your trip to MN last year, i've only been to MN once during the basketball season (when i was 12) so i haven't seen any games but i was stoked enough to be in Vegas last year during Summer League and get to see Flynn and Wes sit on the bench and Lazar on the court.

As far as watching games, i got league pass split with my housemate this season and have watched all but about 5 games this season. He's a lifelong Spurs fan so he's loving it this season, but i'm frustratingly enjoying actually watching the team play game after game and watching the slow improvements in players individual games happen. Well worth the money, and much better than following the team via gamethreads, play-by-plays and boxscores.

Thanks wolfbourne & kiwi_adam, yeah the trip was great, i got these tickets that got me a meet and greet with Jonny Flynn so that was pretty cool to meet him, and see Kahn and Rambis up and close. I loved my time there, Minneapolis is a really nice city, but all the people there were baffled as to why i followed the team, there is immense hatred for the organization.

I proposed league pass to my friends but there was no real interest, mainly due to all my mates being magic fans they get free broadcasts on ONE HD and ESPN HD so they didn't think its worth it, does league pass kill your download limit though?

With all the streams now days I think it will be no problem for you to watch MIN games. Im a big Boston fan and in last 3 years for virtually every game there was a stream. And is getting better, this year some streams are really TV quality, a joy to be NBA fan. I do not know if I can post some links to help you find streams, but If you want post you email in this threat and I will send you the links.

I don't do it so I'm speaking hypothetically, but I'd imagine its no problem to watch a crappy skipping LQ stream, not often you're going to find a Wolves game in TV quality on the net. We're not the Celtics here, your old parquet flooring is probably more well known than our entire franchise.

Welcome to the board KAHN_SWITCH. It's always fun to read how people became fans of the Timberwolves.

Welcome to the forums, KAHN_SWITCH. I am a newcomer like yourself. Unfortunately, I only really started to follow the Wolves until last year, so I missed the KG era. (Although I did pick the Wolves as my favorite team in 02)

Anyways, good luck.

I also don't do it, but I would hypothesize that the time difference would be the problem, not necessarily the technology.

Welcome to the board Switch! I had no idea (before reading RealGM) that the TWolves had so many international fans. So to all of you who aren't from Minnesota, or the US, how do you start to follow the Wolves of all the teams out there? (Not that we care how we get them, we are just happy to have anyone else cheering!)

It's mostly just a random thing I guess, the Wolves were my favourite team on NBA live 05' or something like that and I've just followed ever since. As soon as I developed a more deeper interest in the NBA I got more and more of a 'fan' of the Wolves. I ain't easy for us as I have to stay up till at least 1am just to get tip off for most of our games but I've always been a late night guy anyway. I've really enjoyed watching us this year even though I've had to rely on streams..which aint the best of quality. I'm too short of cash to get the nba league pass and I don't see the point if I can watch for free anyway. So yeah in all, just randomness is my guess.

I have a feeling this will get lost in the other thread, so I'll put it here:

It took a career high in points (tied) and rebounds from a top-3 NBA player in order for a playoff team to beat us in overtime. How can that not be a good sign for the direction of our franchise?
