he's going to stay and not take the extension ? that's insane. he gets neither the situation or the money he wants.

Ah I see... And where's all of this "doom and gloom" speculation coming from? I guess people who are more credible than apparent sources. You can't have it both ways.

Exactly...

You know what I find annoying... Is that all of the people that are projecting CBA Armageddon. All of a sudden lose sensibility with what a "realistic expectation" could be. Why not use the changes in the 1999 CBA to the 2005 CBA as a template? There were changes but those changes were not extreme:

All five guys on the Nuggets board are living in the same fantasy land that the all six Cavaliers fans were in last year. A cold hard reality is upon them. Back to irrelevancy.

exactly what im saying. Your promoting it like The Players Union had a press conference and said this. You promote like its credible because you like what the "source" had to say. im glad you understand. :)

I think the Clips could swoop in for sure but the thought of the Hawks is laughable. No way in hell he goes to Atlanta. Clips with Blake Superior in my mind is a team Melo may indeed re up with but No way ATL

Well, that's not my intention. It's all speculation and all of our debates are based off of a combination of common sense and speculation. However, this idea that Melo is risking his money is no different and if you base it off of the general history of the NBA CBA it's very unlikely that it will happen.

lol thats kinda funny. i mean one thing thats kinda obvious to me is that these "super teams" are going to be even more difficult to put together with the new cba. i mean the team forming in miami basically killed franchises in cleveland and toronto. not this year but in the near future those teams are going to be hurting. the nba doesnt want it's stars all on ganed up on a handful of teams, its when a team has no star player that it loses money and moves towards irrelevancy. so to suggest that paul melo and howard will form a big 3 is laughable. i think they have all have more respect for the nba and the game than to do that, and the new cba is supposedly gonna make it easier for teams to retain players. they can always dream though...

Really nothing hard to believe about the NBPA wanting Melo to have faith in them that they won't let him lose anything remotely close to these insane numbers that ESPN (supposedly the sports authority) is throwing around.

Union's job is to protect Melo's interests and his current interest is in making a decision on where he wants to be free of financial worries. So not crazy at all to think that they're concerned about that current interest of one of their best and therefore most powerful members.

You gotta change the number. Enough. The number is retired twice. Change it to 9.

Why does everyone always say 9? Is that the number he wore in HS or something? I don't think he'd wear an Olypmics number which is 8.

Gilbert Arenas was talking about a high profile player changing his number to 9 next season but he wouldn't say who it was. This runs along the same lines as LBJ saying he was changing to 6 so obviously whatever team had 23 retired he wasn't going to.

ok... Just a curious question. Why would the players association advise him to carry on with no worry?

According to a source, the Players Association hopes Anthony does not make his decision based on a doomsday scenario NBA commissioner David Stern and his agents are promoting. The union hopes Anthony goes about his business as normal, knowing NBPA executive director Billy Hunter will not agree to an unfavorable CBA deal for its superstars.

It could mean many things and I dont want to start trouble, but since you super sized it, my opinion is the following.

Its all about the negotiating gamesmanship. If the Players Association "advised" Melo any other way (aka you better sign the extension), it would basically be admitting defeat. Eventually, both sides are going to have to give a little, and looking at the doomsday scenario below, less guaranteed money is one the owners really want (in the podcast) and if i'm a player looking at that list, settling for less guaranteed money is clearly the best option.

Stern's doomsday scenario...
-hard salary cap
-shorter contracts
-smaller annual raises
-less guaranteed money
-40 percent reduction in salaries

So what happens if Denver decides to hold on to melo at the deadline. Do we trade AR for a big man or do we hold on to him until the offseason in a potential sign and trade? Same with chandler.

Right. The mechanics of the CBA don't need to be changed too much. It's bigger issues that will take the forefront. Issues like what constitutes BRI (basketball related income)? or what percentage of items in BRI (such as players' jersey sales/merchandise) go to players/owners. The "doomsday scenario" is unrealistic, but predictable that Stern would put it out there as a negotiating tactic.
