Griffin: Jays to trade for M.Young (Rumour)

Post#1 » by Raptorsrock » Thu Jan 27, 2011 1:18 pm

Griffin wrote a whole article on the Jays going after Michael Young based on this quote from Wells...

Need a clue that something with the Jays and Young could be in the works? Vernon Wells was asked during a Tuesday conference call where he’d been when Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos called to ask him to waive his no-trade clause, to consent to go to Anaheim in trade.

“I was at the Mavericks-Lakers game with my wife and, ironically, with Michael Young and his wife,” Wells said. “I got the call at halftime and missed most of the rest of the game.”

Ironically? Why would Wells use that word for something that was merely coincidental?

I guess it still could happen but this article is like a post on the Raptors board by some 16 year old pimply kid

you might want to change the thread title cause it makes it seems like griffin is reporting that he surely know that jays are going to trade for young when in the article he is simply speculating that this might be one of the options available

V-Dub and Mike Young are longtime friends. As far as I can tell, that article only mentions that Young and Wells and there wives where hanging out together, in V-dub's hometown no less... I don't see anything there that suggets the jays are looking to trade for Young...

Wells was drafted out of High School.

No disrespect to that, but he is not exactly an English Major. Ironic is a commonly misused word. It is often used in daily use to refer to situations that are merely coincidental or just a bit peculiar.

I blame Alanis Morissette… but I can’t stay mad at her.

That said, Michael Young would be a welcome addition at 3B as far as I'm concerned. He may be blocking Lawrie sooner rather than later. But depending on the price for Young, AA might be able to flip him for more value down the road.

If it were true, it would've been a simple Young for Napoli trade. Wells context of the word ironically was probably to insinuate that he was "ironically" with Michael Young, who happens to be another baseball player when AA called about baseball matters.

Ironic.

He may have meant it was ironic because Young had also been in the Jays orgranization and had also been traded away.

Quite possibly the worst bit of speculation ever to appear on the internet. Well, it's between this and the Obama birth certificate stuff, but it's neck-and-neck.

What about the speculation that you are, and have been, a member of the Communist bandwagon?

Anyway, just pretending that the rumours are true, what would the Jays need to get back for taking on Young's contract? Cash, prospects?

This and only this. Irony is a concept that's been misused/abused to death, so it's not exactly earth shattering if a professional athlete makes a grammatical error and mistakenly uses the concept inappropriately. Can't believe Griffin turned it into an entire article.

You'd figure if AA really wanted Young bad enough to take on his deal (or part of it) it would have been part of the Napoli transaction.

Griffin really went for it with this. The Star even gave him the full 2nd page. Speculation is fun and I would love to see Young on this team.
That's what she said.

Well... didn't Griffin mention that Napoli could be moved after the Wells deal? It doesn't matter, this is such a head-scratcher, I don't even know what to say.

bias towards Young but not at $16M/yr. Perhaps they take Frasor & the Jays get Young & cash/yr.
