McGee for Chandler

Post#1 » by dukeknicksirish » Thu Jan 27, 2011 6:29 pm

Trade McGee for Wilson Chandler... why?

Washington gets a young, strong shooter to replace the role of R. Lewis (because he will prolly get traded by the deadline...)

New York wants a big man... McGee a young, athletic C who can run the floor and allow Amar'e to play the PF position...

Ideas?

Yeah we should totally trade McGee for a guy who will be a FA next year and most likely won't be retained by the Knicks because they will go after Melo.

IBTL

It would take a big incentive to trade McGee for a wing. The Knicks don't have picks. The only incentive I can think of would be taking on Lewis for expirings(Curry, Mason, Turiaf). The Wizards could then target Nene in Free Agency. However I don't see the Knicks going for this.

lewis has played well since the trade but theres still no way i see any gms taking on his massive contract. young teams in rebuild mode dont want to build around a max contract vet and contending teams cant afford him.

Oww. I chicken got out of the pen.

Hell, with a slow as things have been here recently, I was happy to see a new thread, even if it was something that has been talked about for a while.

Personally, I'm getting a little lost on what this team would do next. There are so many ways they could go. The cleaning house phase was someone clear. Drafting got a little fuzzy until we learned we got the #1. Staying young this year and moving Gil at some point was pretty clear.

Now ? God who knows. Move Dray ? Move Young ? Move Lewis ? Get a Chandler ? Draft position SF or get a true center some how. Wait on McGee ? McGee at PF? Kirk gone ? Mustfa ? Does Booker or Seraphin or Hamady have anything for us and when ?

The only thing that seems clear is that Wall will play PG here for a while and we have more games this year and that Howard should be back soon.

Isn't Chandler a free agent this offseason? Can't imagine the Knicks keeping him if they get Melo. Part of me may be willing to do this deal because I could see McGee riding the bench much like Anthony Randolph does. However, McGee's value is likely to get even more inflated especially with John Wall, plus he's playing with a rookie contract. The Wizards have spent 2-3 developing McGee to be their center, doesn't make much sense to trade him when he hasn't reaped the benefits.

I'm not a huge McGee fan, but this isnt a trade I would consider. If he was signed to an extension with a reasonable rate of pay per year, then i might go for it.

We seem pretty set at the wing position right now though. Im happy with going with Lewis and Howard (when hes healthy) and getting Thornton some time there too. For this year. Then we can see who we get in the draft, and move on from there.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.
