Sasha Vujacic is not a bad player
I was at the Nets Grizzlies game last night. (22 dollars on stubhub the night before got me row 2 midcourt...crazy) and got a closeup view of Sasha and he looked great. Really confident handling the ball and hitting the three ball good... looked a lot better than Farmar. He was the first person to come off the bench and was used in crunch time. I was also at Nets Jazz(30 dollars a week before the game got me right behind the backboard) and he looked really good there too.
I think the reason he's sucked on the Lakers the past two years was because of his minutes... During 07-08 he was the first person off the bench and was beasting. Then the next season Bynum and Ariza returned, pushing him further back, which lead to less minutes and him sucking.
I know the Lakers are deep this year so there was no way he was getting a lot of minutes, but he's really not a bad player.
Point of the thread is I'd rather have him than Joe Smith

We know Sasha isn't a guard version of Mark Madsen but Shannon is an all around better player while Sasha is a shooter and a defensive pest Shannon has more to his offensive arsenal than just the 3 pointer and and Shannon is a truly good defensive player not just a pest like Sasha.

Re: Sasha Vujacic is not a bad player
of course you say that now.....he gets to do as he please with NJ, he chucks as soon as he catches the ball, he's still fouling people 30ft away from the basket and still to aggressive on D leading to getting tourhced. But besides these negatives, he wasn't WORTH the salary and taxes that came along with it, basically he was costing Dr. Buss 10+mill/yr to ride the bench. So this was business deal, I dont understand why people still think this trade had anything to do with Joe Smith
, I can easily bet you that the GSW 2nd this upcoming draft could yield a much better player then Sasha.

Sasha had so many opportunities to secure a role here, and he never took advantage. Same thing with Farmar. And it's a little different putting up decent numbers on a bad team than being a valuable contributor on a contender. Good for him, but I don't find myself missing him much.

Huh? Shannon Brown sucks defensively, and outside of finishing in transition and being a better spot up shooter (this year), he pretty much sucks. I would actually prefer Sasha's pesky defense to whatever you want to call what Brown does out there.
Sasha's biggest problem, for us, was that he just couldn't hit any damn shots, and the sad thing is that most of his shots were wide open opportunities. That was his only real role and he couldn't fulfill it so that made him just about useless to us.
I agree with Sedale. He had plenty of chances to play a big role in a championship caliber team, and he just couldn't live up to the "Machine" hype. What a scrub.

Re: Sasha Vujacic is not a bad player
I think the Lakers probably should've kept him.
Joe Smith? Really? What the hell is that guy going to possibly contribute?
I really hope that Mitch can turn that trade exception into something, otherwise we just gave away Sasha for a Chicago Bulls 2nd Round Pick. Doesn't make sense to me if we're trying to win a championship this year...

with all this hate on sasha he still gets a cookie for making those ft last finals. And shannon brown on the team beacuse of his youth and his abilty to drive the lane. And at times his 3pointer can be deadly.. Hes a poor mans monta or westbrook and his defense is so so.

Re: Sasha Vujacic is not a bad player
Damn, now you people gonna try to rewrite history because he's chucking a bit better in a 22-60 team?
He sucks. He's a f. chuckler and that's it. Lakers didn't need "the machine".
Btw, what's so great about his D? Playing "aggressively" 30ft away from the basket to try to get inside players' head but ultimately failing and ending up putting people at the line? Waking up an entire team?(do you remember the Phx series, game 6 against Dragic?).
Brown is much better than him. Teams stopped leaving him open from the 3 and he's re-adjusting his game and playing ok in the meantime. Anyway, if opponents don't let him open from the 3 anymore like they used to do to Sasha then he's already doing his job.

You're looking at it wrong.
Look, no one's upset that Sasha is gone, all I'm doing is looking at the trade from an outside perspective:
Are the Lakers better off with:
Sasha Vujacic
or
Joe Smith, a $5 MIL trade exception, and Chicago's 2012 Second Round Pick
(Note: I view the swap of LAL's 2011 First and Golden State's 2nd to be a bit of a wash)
Money-wise, yes, it's smart for the Lakers. However, I want as many players as possible to help us win a championship this year. Joe Smith can't outplay Theo Ratliff, and I'd prefer a fifth guard over another (kind of useless) veteran big-man.
I'm just hoping that the $5 MIL trade exception + picks + whoever, can actually get us something useful.
