Realgm Layout Change

Post#1 » by Gurgals » Wed Jan 26, 2011 11:41 pm

I was wondering if Mods have any connection with the website itself, and if there could be some changes made in the layout of the forum.

It seems as though many people are interested in creating threads about the draft, potential trades etc, the majority of which are locked almost immediately.

What if instead of having just a single "official" thread for all of these discussions where there are nearly thousands of posts which go completely unseen, we could have a separate directory for each in which people can people can create new threads.

for example:
There could be a trade directory where people can post entirely new threads about trades
There could be an NCAA directory where people can post entirely new threads about college ball

This way other members feel like they can contribute to the forum, and leaves the raptors board discussions exactly the same, giving the mods some help keeping the clutter on the main page down.

just a thought so people here get the feeling of having some input.

thoughts?

The drop down menu is back.

BUT.....

When I reach the Toronto Raptors Front Office and click "FORUMS" it takes me to the JAZZ forum.

Also, will you include the RECENT threads in the front office.

I always liked how at the front office I can see the most recently made threads, whereas when I go to the actual forums page I see the threads in order of most recent post.

Since the announcement thread is locked and this is the only somewhat relevant one I could find, I just wanted to express my disappointment with the new layout unveiled earlier. I saw a mod in the other thread assert the "much cleaner" look. I disagree.

The RealGM home page is now way too busy, and laid out in a counter-intuitive manner. The previous look was, in fact, the cleaner of the two.

I appreciate and don't want to belittle all the work that went into this. I know you all just wanted to improve on the site. I think you've done the opposite, though. I would appreciate it if the site could create an option to use the old, better layout.

Thanks a lot. Appreciate your work on the site.

Thanks!

One more thing. Is it possible to get the link "Read more from the board" at the bottom of the Front Office page under the latest threads?

One more layout change concern. In the past, the link to the Trade Checker appeared in the banner at the top of every page in the forums. Since the layout edit, it's gone. If I go to the main RealGM basketball page, it is in the banner, but in the forums, nada. Most often, if I'm going to use the Checker, it'll be to verify a point I'm trying to make in the Trade or Sixers forum, and it was convenient to have it at the top of the screen. Putting it only on the main page is incredibly awkward and inconvenient, given that it's such a big part of the site's value, and people in the forum are, I suspect, far more likely to need and use it than people who are just scanning the main page for headlines. Could it be brought back?

Edit: In looking at the banner at the top of the forum, it seems that what's happening is the player search function is covering that link. What I'm seeing is

Home | News | Scores | Teams | NBA | NCAA | D-League | International | National Teams | High [Player Search Box]

Which is clearly incorrect, as that last should say High School, with Trade Checker and Info next to that, before the Player Search box. Unless, of course, we're looking up the league's pot smokers, in which case High Player Search could hardly be more accurate.
