Rubio is pretty much the opposite of what the kings need. He is an extremely ball dominant PG that doesn't have legit range, and isn't really a big time athelete. I think Kemba walker and Irving would both be better fits for the kings. IF the kings don't end up with a top 1-3 pick I really think we should just draft walker who seems to be a perfect PG for our team. He's a talented guy who can make solid passes and drain it from deep. And while he is small he is still a good defender and is good at taking advantage of the passing lanes.

I've been watching this team real hard and I think our biggest problem is (besides shooting) is the lack of a floor general. This foolishness of "Oh Tyreke and Beno are interchangeable.....they can swap the ball handling" is crap and doesn't do us any justice. We need a consistent ball handler who the team knows what their options are going to be.

With Tyreke: When he has the ball (handling) you sometimes never know what his options are going to be. The only thing you're sure of is he'll over dribble to get in the lane while having guys just stand around waiting to be his bailout.

With Beno: When he has the ball he either wants to get in his sweet spot for the bunny hopper or pass it to Tyreke to.. (see second paragraph) and thats basically it.

Because those guys don't have clear options what they want to do with the ball they always go away from what works during games to over dribbling and trying to be the hero. When Cousins is killing the opposing teams through 3 quarters and as a result developed a lead; in the 4th that lead is taken away so instead of either Beno/Tyreke establishing Cousins on the block and actually pass the ball to him, they once again over dribble.

Rubio I feel won't fall into that crap. He's a true PG. His optioins will be to pound the ball into Cousins for Cousins to make a play or set up his teammates. Yes he's overrated and is hyped beyond messure, but I feel with the right coaching and plays he can really give this team a lift. And as someone mentioned, he adds to the young core we have. Imagine if he lives up to a fragment of his overblown hype.

Cousins/Whiteside/Casspi/Evans/Rubio ...you call this kind of lineup An All Potential Lineup  I say we give it a shot

This is excellent stuff.

Beno - no matter how good a year he is having - is ultimately a sixth man as a SCORING point, not a starter. This team is still missing a FLOOR GENERAL to put next to Tyreke and take the need to get other guys involved out of his area of responsibility.

I'm getting very tired of hearing about how Tyreke is too ball-dominant. HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE!!! Your star player and leading scorer cannot be your PG on a championship type team for just this reason. the guy who has the ball in his hands with the game on the line should NEVER be worrying about setting up his teammates. He should be thinking about which way he's going to score this time.

Same with Beno. He is really a scorer first - and a pretty darn good one at that. Let him be in that role where he belongs - as the primary backup guard scorer. Otherwise, trade him while his value is highest.

He probably wouldn't want to play for Sacramento tho.

He did (for some reason) when he was getting drafted...

Wouldn't touch him now less he's free.

I wouldn't give anything of value for Rubio, at least nothing that Minn will take seriously. I don't think he would fit in on this team at all. I think Beno is a better fit, and I like at least 4 guards in the draft more than Rubio anyway. NBA defenders will eat him alive.

Agreed, Rubio is trash. Think Luke Ridnour with a lesser jumper.

I don't think it would work having two non-shooters in your backcourt. Kings should offer that #1, Daly and Landry to GS for Monta Ellis. He'd be a great fit with Tyreke.

Ha, no he really wouldn't. He, like Evans, needs the ball in his hands to be effective. Now Curry on the other hand...

Am I incorrectly remember that Rubio SAID he wanted to play here? I know he said no OKC and no Memphis, but I distinctly remember he said he wanted to play here.

Still, we don't need that attitude, keep him outta here.

I think a recent article (can't remember where) said that he only wants to play on the east coast, or something like that.

Yeah, pretty much the only thing he was adamant about was not playing for the Twolves. I might be misremembering or reading too much into what I've heard Jerry Reynolds saying in passing comments, but I don't think Petrie and co. were very impressed with Rubio when he worked out for us. I seriously doubt they would trade anything significant for him regardless.

I want him to come to the NBA sooo bad, so everyone can see how overhyped he is.

Return to Sacramento Kings
