Trade Deadline Thread
The trade deadline is coming up in about three weeks. Kahn has said that nothing is imminent for the Wolves. There has been rumors of a deal in place for randolph if the Knicks need an additional draft pick. Brewer and Telfair will not be back next year. Do the Wolves trade them at the deadline to get something in return? Do the Wolves bring in an expensive player with their cap space to add a large salary slot for the future? Will the new CBA make that meaningless? I certainly don't know what the Wolves will do or what deals are actually available. But I wouldn't be disappointed if all they did was flip Brewer and Telfair for some thing of value rather than letting them walk for no compensation. Any other moves could be delayed until the draft/offseason. Certainly if a great opportunity was available at the deadline, the Wolves could pull the trigger.
What your thoughts on the Wolves and the trade deadline?

I don't see us getting rid of Brewer anytime soon especially for scraps. I could see him back with us next year. He's been very productive recently and has stepped his game up on both sides of the ball and the staff & co. like him, I don't think anybody could dislike him anyways. Only way I seem him being moved is if we get a better player in return so we will have to wait and see.
With all the Melo stuff going on now to the deadline possibly extended into the summer, Randolph won't get traded here. He seems to be the key piece in a Melo to NYK deal.

Yes, I don't think it is at all certain that Brewer or Telfair will be gone next year. At this point it might surprise me less to see Martell Webster get moved. But who knows. One thing I think you did get right is that Kahn will likely only make a move if he is getting a great value.

It hard to get a good read on what the Wolves intend to do with Brewer. I would be disappointed if he was traded for scraps. Getting a better player, or a least a similar player that is a better fit, is what I would expect.

It's just my speculation based on the Wolves not exercising their option on him for next year. Maybe Brewer has earned a spot in the Wolves' future.

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
I know this has been mentioned before, but if we do nothing, our cap space in the off-season looks something like:
(60 M) cap - (43.1 M) committed salaries -(4 to -5.2 M) 1st round pick 1-4 -(3.4 M) Rubio cap hold -(2.5 to -3.0 M) other 1sts = 5.3M to 7M cap space in off-season
compare that with 11.8M cap space now.
There is $4.8M to $6.5M incentive to do something by the deadline - if a deal that is going to help us presents itself.

It certainly would be nice to find the third Amigo to go with Love and Beasley. It seems to be the Wolves' plan to see if Wes or Ricky are that third stud.

I think the Wolves should get rid of Webster, he has not shown anything special land Brewer+ Johnson are outplaying him.
I think we should go after a veteran who can play some small minutes but can still teach our players something.
Maybe Peja although his contract is huge it is expiring ( Assuming there is not a bigger trade we are looking into)

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
Everything league-wide is really fuzzy. I think it's mostly because everyone is waiting to see what happens with Melo.
Locks to get traded include: Rip Hamilton, Troy Murphy.
Others likely to get traded by the deadline: Andre Miller, Marcus Camby/Pryzbilla .
As far as the Wolves are concerned, I wouldn't object to moving some small pieces around to get another veteran presence. Maybe if Ridnour had another vet to pair up with, he wouldn't get sucked into making all of those stupid rookie mistakes.
Actually, I'd love to have Rip Hamilton on this team (but his contract is just too big of a killer). He'd really help the team out, and we know he's available. If he came here and wasn't upset about it, he'd be a perfect example of how to do things right (come of screens, play team and man defense, take care of the ball).

I'm not sure Prince is available but maybe we could land him or McGrady instead.

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
Pretty confident these guys will be back for the 2012-13 season ... we need to keep some structure and I'd like to add talent to this batch of players
Ridnour - Okay for the money
Brewer - accepts his role, wants to return, and could be a fairly cheap reserve
Johnson - too passive, but will come around
Beasley - not sold on him, but too much potential for the money
Tolliver - accepts his roll, reasonable contract, and wants to be here
Love - has limitations, but understands and excels at his strengths
Milicic - some ups and down, but solid potential
Most Expendable without a big impact
Webster has flat-lined and somewhat regressed
Pekovic has struggled to adapt and I'm not sure he can
Flynn has taken such a step back to the point where I'm unsure he can recover
Koufos is a reasobly priced reserve, but has no real skill that stands out
Ellington has potential to be average
Telfair is as good as gone
Hayward is off the radar for the most part

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
Just based on what we have seen from Brewer over the last 10 games, I highly doubt hes gonna be traded, hes an important piece to this teams future. Hes the type of player that will understand and accept his role and will be fairly cheap. He likes Sota and the staff like him, as do the fans.
Brewers numbers over the last 10 gms - 26 mpg, 40% FG, 73% FT, 2.2 stls, 10.1 ppg.
I could see Webster being traded...besides pre-season, his numbers havent been flash and hes always injured or playing at 70% instead of 100%.
Maybe Bassy will be let go to, as he deserves minutes elsewhere.

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
That's exactly why I wouldn't get rid of Webster. He's obviously still not 100% so selling him now would just be selling him low.
I agree that I don't see anything huge happening. Maybe the Randolph deal finally gets done, they make a move for a veteran or they rent out their capspace, but I think guys like Iggy are off the table for the moment. Hamilton would be kind of cool, but his contract kills that idea.

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
Brewer is a 10 MPG player at most, and a bizarre desire to keep his mediocrity around should have zero influence on what moves the Wolves make to improve the team.

Well, clearly, Brewer isint a 10 MPG player, cause hes averaging 25 MPG. Hes also played every game this year and started several...maybe in your fantasy world , he is...ha ha

Yes. Ha ha. He's averaging more than 10 MPG for one of the worst teams in the league because Rambis is borderline insane.
For anyone possessing reading comprehension, it was clear that I was saying that Brewer deserves no more than 10 MPG. But speaking of fantasy, I would like to get a hold of whatever drugs that you take that make Brewer seem like someone who shouldn't be replaced with an actual starting caliber NBA player ASAP.

Re: Trade Deadline Thread
Yeah, I like Brewer as much as the next guy but he's not untouchable by any stretch. He fills the role we need him to now and that's good, but if you can replace him with someone better that performs the same role you do it without hesitation.
