Mavs Fan
i was reading some of the ATL posts and some revolve around blowing up the team and starting over. So i was wondering how you Hawks fans would welcome a trade such as this...
Dallas Sends:
- Caron Butler (1 year 10.5M)
- Jason Terry (2 years 9.8 M)
- Brendan Haywood (6 years 6.9)...True starting center that allows Horford to play his natural PF positon.
- DeShawn Stevenson (1 year 4.1M)
Hawks Send:
- Josh Smith (3 years 11.7M)
- Joe Johnson (6 years, 16.3M)
Mavs Reasons:
These pieces would hurt our flexibility going forward, but would be the final pieces for a substantial playoff push in the midsts of Dirks closing window.
Hawks Reasons:
Allows the rebuilding to somewhat begin while still leaving other pieces intact to remain competitive as well as being trading assets.

Ya know, YOUR team is a lot closer to that reality, considering y'all's ages.
But, to answer your question, we would not like that offer.

Blowing up the team and starting over usually involves getting expirings and young talent, not taking on Brendan Haywood's old overpaid ass with not prospects.

Yeah i know and most Mavs fans don't agree with that but i do that's why a trade for the here and now will be ideal. I appreciate the replies. Would you guys know if Smoove is on the block and what his price would be. Is there any Maverick package that would be suitable to acquire him minus...(Beaubois, Dirk, and Chandler)
PS, im a huge fan of his but the league knows he cant shoot but his Defense is pretty good

If we were to offer Smoove to y'all, we'd be asking for one of "Beaubois, Dirk, and Chandler."
What else do you have?

Would this be enough or am i undervaluing JSmoove? I don't think I am because of his contract isn't the prettiest
- Caron Butler (10M Exp. Contract)
- Dominique Jones (Explosive rookie)

Re: Mavs Fan
His contract is actually quite a bargain for his production.
Hawks would pass on the offer of the injured Butler and unproven D. Jones.

Goodness. If Smoove's $11.7 million (for a 18.7 PER) seems high to you, then Dirk's $17.3 million (for a 23.6 PER) must be choking you to death.
For Smoove, we'd want a good Center and/or a very good PG.

You can't offer Atlanta savings and spare parts and expect them to part with Joe Johnson. I would offer Butler, Beaubois, Mahinmi, and a first rounder to start with. No one cares about Dominique Jones.

I'd offer you Haywood, but his contract is ****. I know you probably haven't heard of Mahinmi, but he's basically starting to take over for Haywood as back up (I know he's not playing tonight.... I don't know why). Haywood is still a quality center, but Mahinmi is turning out to be pretty good (good enough to bench our $7 million back up). He was a first round pick two years ago and has just been playing behind established and more high profile/expensive centers in Dallas/SA. If you know about Roddy Beaubois, your either interested in him or not. For Joe Johnson, I'd offer you him as well..... along with expiring contracts and a pick.

Re: Mavs Fan
the reason i thought Joe Johnson would be available is because of that contract. With all due respect he doesn't deserve that amount of money. Isn't he getting paid like DWade and Bron Bron. I love Joe but he's more of a compliment to a superstar and that would be a championship team. With Joe being the Superstar the team really isn't going far. Just my opinion, don't wanna step on any toes.
Josh on the other hand is intriguing because he has the capability to take any team to the next level defensively. While his offensive game isn't as well rounded as his defense but his dunking and energy is a need any team would welcome. I would prefer to trade for Josh for his upside although his early career has been disappointing.

Fans might want to trade JJ, but we've never heard of even a credible rumor that the FO would even consider trading him for at least the next 2-3 seasons. Trading JJ is just internet fodder and nothing more. Just a waste of time to discuss really.MFT5 wrote:the reason i thought Joe Johnson would be available is because of that contract. Josh has rounded out his game somewhat this year. He's added an outside shot to go with his 3-4 assists per. It would be a large mistake to think that Josh is what he was last year and hasn't improved.MFT5 wrote:Josh on the other hand is intriguing because he has the capability to take any team to the next level defensively. Re: Mavs Fan
Even as a fellow Mavs fan this...
"Dominique Jones (Explosive rookie)"
Made me chuckle a bit.
But yeah Joe Johnson may be a possibility in a salary relief deal with a pick and whatnot involved.
That's a hell of a lot of contract for a guy that's already 29 and on a team that likes to stay under the luxury tax.
We don't really have what it'd take to get Josh Smith tho

Dallas had no one Atlanta wants for anyone in it's core. But Haywood would be nice for anyone outside of JJ, Smith, Horf, and Jamal.

Just because Joe's contract is bad doesn't mean Atlanta is gonna sell him for pennies on the dollar. He is a top SG in the game so it isn't like his contract is that horrible compared to his production, but he is overpaid some.
I know Dallas would prefer to trade for Josh...but the problem is that Dallas doesn't have much to give. Atlanta and Dallas are not good trading partners. dallas doesn't have many good tradeable assets after Roddy B.

Atlanta and Dallas are actually great trading partners if our management was smart. JJ for Butler + Beaubois + Stevenson + 1 works for both teams.

Except for the fact that Dallas values Roddy B way too highly for that type of trade to happen.

I don't think we value Beaubois to high at all. Alot of other fan bases don't believe Mavs fans when we say he has the makeup to be a star PG or star SG in this league but its the truth.
The sample size for Beaubois is small but his game against Golden State and Playoff game against the Spurs when we were down big and he brought us back is the barometer in which we judge Roddy B.
As another poster said, Beaubois is a huge part of future Mavs basketball. Jones and Mahinmi are in future plans as well but Roddy B is the Man in Mavs Country.

I never said he was the top sg, I said he was a top one.
