It has been a great week:
Knicks beat Heat
Melo front is quiet, when Donnie is involved there are no leaks.
Melos camp said definitely Nets wont be re-entering the picture.
I would expect a trade announced in principal on all-star sunday. That way he can play for the West. His contract probably has bonuses built in.

Why would Denver want to do that? At this point Melo is (potentially) forcefully pushing his way out of Denver and not to a team that benefits the Nuggets all that much. If the Nuggets have submitted to getting pennies on the dollar for their franchise player just to get him that extra year in $$$, why would they be dumb enough to also help him get bonuses which are tied to his current contract? So now in addition to
and
you think they willingly apply this...
and
They would be wiser to move him before All-Star Sunday, no?

Although the volume on the Carmelo Anthony trade talks has been dialed way down since New Jersey's Mikhail Prokhorov announced last week that the Nets were pulling out of the Melo Sweepstakes, I continue to hear that (A) Denver does not want to wait until the week of the Feb. 24 deadline to make a deal to avoid having to scramble at the last minute if nothing can be worked out with Melo's first-choice team in New York, and (B) Nuggets officials don't see Anthony's repeated statements of concern about failing to sign an extension before this summer's anticipated lockout as a sign of hope that they can still convince him to stay. Sources say that the Nuggets know that an about-face from Melo on signing the extension, after months of balking since it was presented last June before the 2010 NBA draft, would be purely about money and likely stick them with an unhappy franchise player who still wanted out. As much as the Nuggets would love to believe that Melo might look at his remaining options in these final three-plus weeks before the deadline and suddenly declare that Denver actually is the best place for him to be, they certainly don't expect that to happen after months of Melo refusing to see it that way.

I guess this is something. Marc Stein reports that his sources say Denver doesn't want to wait to the deadline and they don't want Melo back because then he would be about the money instead of wanting to be there. FWIW, I guess something is better than nothing. -Jitpal

Denver needs to put an end to it already and deal him... February is basically here, how much longer can they hold off? I understand they want to win as many games as possible, but letting this important of a deal come now this close to the deadline, for a few games... They're either stupid, or have a trade set with (hopefully) us and are just holding off as long as possible before pulling the trigger..
The longer they wait, the more Donnie could really stick it to them by saying 'ehh decided not to include ___ in the deal now" .. Donnie and Denver i'm sure have other deals they'd like to look into after this thing is done, they can't leave 2 days for that to happen...
I like the continuous news of Melo still only wanting the Knicks and Denver not wanting to hold onto him past the deadline - good things for us...
I predict something will happen in the next 14 days, maybe 7-10

if Denver said they would accept the following offer:
Felton, Chandler, Turiaf, Randolph, 'Buke, 2nd, and $3 Million for 'Melo, Carter and scraps
What would you do if you were Donnie? (note, you still have Curry to flip for Dalembert or someone else)

well, i don't know when they'll trade him but i never expected them to keep him past the deadline. it's why we'll probably get him a little cheaper then people expect.

Don't see Donnie including Felton in that package.

Carmelo Anthony talks about Brooklyn, the nixed pursuit and the meeting that never happened
BY STEFAN BONDY
Carmelo Anthony will alienate a fanbase no matter what he says, so he’s careful with his words, delicate and vague.
He’s also seems very unconvinced about the Nets, the team that many (including myself) believed would be his destination.
In a one-on-one interview at the 76ers practice facility, Anthony revealed that he knows very little about the arena in Brooklyn (“for now, they’re still in Jersey”), that he viewed the meeting with Mikhail Prokhorov as “a step” (hardly a consummation) and that winning isn’t the only reason he hasn’t signed the extension with Denver.
Q: Do you believe the Nets are done pursuing you?
A: I don’t know. I haven’t anything heard anything else.
Q: If the Nets came back and asked for another meeting, would you be receptive to that?
A: I really don’t know what is their mindset. I really don’t know if they can come back, if they’re willing to come back and say, “Let’s have a meeting,” or they’re still interested. Everything has died down. So I really haven’t had a chance to figure out what’s going on.
Q: What did you want to hear from Jay-Z or Prokhorov?
A: I think the meeting would have been important just to sit down, that was just a step, knowing that those guys weren’t even in the picture early on. So for those guys to come and for me to be able and willing to sit and hear what they have to say and see what they were trying to do. I think that was a step.
Q: So are you saying at all that the Nets are still an option for you?
A: No, what I’m saying is they said they’re out of this whole Melo-Drama.
Q: Yeah, that’s what we call it.
A: It ain’t drama for me, I tell you that.
Q: (Rehashed what Jason Kidd said). Can you see the future in Brooklyn yet, or is it too far away?
A: Everybody knows what that could be in the next couple years. I don’t really know how far along or where that situation is at as far as the building or when they’re moving or anything like that. I’m pretty sure there’s going to be a lot of excitement for when it does happen but, for right now, they’re still in Jersey.
Q: Playing Devil’s Advocate here, you’ve said it’s all about winning and the Nuggets are a better team than the other rumored destinations (Knicks, Nets), why not commit to Denver?
A: My decision on whether to stay or whether to leave is based on a lot of things. A lot of things come into consideration. That’s my own things and thoughts that go through my head and things that I talk about with the team, with the front office, with my team. That’s stuff that I pretty much keep in house with my rhyme and reason and the method to all the madness.
Q: Did the public nature of these trade talks bother you?
A: Yeah, because I wasn’t really fully aware of what was going on until they came out, somebody released that I was supposed to be having a meeting and I didn’t even know anything about it. And then they came out and said there was a meeting and confirmed it, so as far as anything goes, I never knew anything from this side, from the front office, that a trade was happening.
Q: Why do you think the Nets have never been able to attract a star free agent?
A: I don’t know. Past seven years, they had pretty good teams. Just like everybody else they go through their spurts trying to figure out what’s next for them. Other than that, seven or eight years ago they were one of the top teams in the NBA. I know when I came to the NBA they were one of the top teams.

Perhaps Detroit, NY & Denver will do business....And I am hoping NY does not trade Anthony Randolph until the summer at least.

I see 2 bigs on that roster who I'd bet Donnie would find useful....Ben Wallace and Jason Maxiel....Maxiel would fit nicely along the frontline and while he has fallen off a lil offensively he has a beast tendency to his game at times. Solid rebounder and physical down low, undersized, but skilled...Paul Milsap, before Paul Milsap. Ben Wallace with Ronny would be a HUGE help to Amare as Moz comes along slowly...I'd rather have Maxiel because he is younger and MAYBE we'd be able to get a furture 1st from Detroit for taking on his contract....Denver can take RIp, Wilson, Bill Walker and the 1st we'd get from Detroit for taking on the contract of Maxiel

Not a bad idea involving Detroit who just wants to dump salary.
