Reimer with another good game yesterday. Phaneuf has been much better recently. Man what a terrible year.

Unbelievably, the Leafs future STILL looks worse than the Raps (who aren't in great shape themselves, but at least have decent young chips and a draft pick), and the leafs had like a 3 year headstart in "rebuilding".

Watching yesterdays All-star draft you can"t help but think how pathetic this organization is. We have one All-Star, who probably wouldn't be there if the NHL didn't mandate every team must be represented. We have no rookies representing us an upcoming team after 7 years of being bad.
This is just so sad.

Its amazing how Toronto is the graveyard of GM's. I mean Colangelo came in with such fanfare. He had Maurizio who was rumoured to become the Nets GM. Masai became the Nuggets GM so Colangelo had a good braintrust.
Burke came in with a similar pedigree, he has Nonis (he was offered the Tampa Bay job and he turned it down) and Poulin. Both of them are among the highest paid GM's, they have full autonomy and they ve both failed badly.

Re: January Leafs Discussions
So the NHLPA did a poll at the All Star Break.
Toronto is bottom 4 in terms of cities where people want to play
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/allstar ... o-play-on/
Ron Wilson is the coach most players would not want to play for. I guess we re leading in one category...

I think that's probably not even true. Perhaps the real thing is that they have autonomy WITHIN the set parameters MLSE sets out for them. There have been just too many similarities all MLSE GMs seem to operate within. The goal is still to make money as fast as you can, not to win a title. If you're planning on tanking for 4 years and not make any moves outside of staying the rebuilfing course, MLSE will fire you.

The sad thing is, atleast on the hockey side, the could have turned a profit and still did a full rebuild in the last 7 years. That's the worse part about that franchise. 7 years, no playoffs, no great young talent building up and still no end to this. They could have done the full rebuild in that time, still made money during those lean years and by now would be an up and coming if not already a team in the upper echelon.

Exactly. This is why I dont buy the they re content with treadmill team crap. This team made 2 million per game from gate recipients during the playoffs. They would make millions of dollars more if they were a contender.

But they are impatient. They can't resist speeding it up to their long term detriment. Thus they speed up with mediocre moves that don't pan out, and it feeds into itself with more tanking.
Plus, there is no guarantee that constant tanking even when done "right" will yield a future contender. That's how they think.

Re: January Leafs Discussions
Kessel with a terrible penalty in regulation, Panthers tie the game late. But he nearly redeemed himself with an unreal goal in OT that Clemmensen just got his pad on.

Leafs win in SO, Bozak and Armstrong with the goals.
