I feel bad for the Knicks for having nobody good to trade and having to watch their cross river rival, the Nets, land the player they covet so much. Actually I dont really feel bad about that at all

Plus, who is to say that if we do smaller deals, build a quality team, and Melo does become a free agent, he doesn't come to us at a much cheaper price than the extension granted.
Bye Leon Rose.
Bye World Wide Wes.
Bye Josh Kroenke.
Bye Masai.
You're not re-tooling off of us.
Favors, become the beast that you're ready to be.

Asked about the allure of Brooklyn - where the Nets are scheduled to move for the 2012-13 season - Anthony seemed to agree with former Nets great Jason Kidd, who said last week it's tough to envision the team there until the arena is built.
"Everybody knows what that could be in the next couple years," Anthony said. "I don't really know how far along or where that situation is at as far as the building or when they're moving or anything like that."

The Nets have to love the rock Denver is between. Unless a new scenario materializes they are going to have to come back to us (e.g. Chicago says Noah is on the table or something like that).
Question for the board - when DEN comes back what is our offer?
My starting place would be to refuse to give up either of the good picks ('11 NJN or '12 GSW) unless Favors is off the table - goal being to get Melo without losing Favors. We are going to be lucky to win 30-35 games even with Melo therefore our pick is being sold only at a premium.
Under the pretense of keeping Favors/Lopez, I would give up any combination of picks/expiring contracts possible. I suppose this would be the maximum offer:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=4dt4yef
GSW '12 first, NJN '11 first, HOU '12 first
Harris
James
Hump
Troy (could potentially buy out for more $ savings)
Graham
$3 Mil
for
Melo
Billups
Balkman
S Williams
- DEN gets $7 mil in their pocket this year (counting cash in trade, lux tax savings, and pro-rating the remainder of players' salaries)
- Saves $19 mil against their cap in 2011-2012
- DEN acquires 2 young-ish starters (Harris could realistically be considered an upgrade over CB)
- Counting James, DEN acquires the equivalent of 4 first round picks, 2 of which are virtual locks to be top 18, and potentially lottery bound.
IMO that offer blows away the Knicks offer, blows away what the Celtics gave up for KG, and allows this team to realistically maintain enough assets to ascend.
Billups - Farmar
Morrow - Sasha
Melo - Outlaw
Favors - S. Williams
Lopez - Petro
