Flynnicism!

Post#1 » by urinesane » Mon Jan 31, 2011 10:47 am

I think a lot of T-Wolves fans need to learn patience. We are very quick to totally condemn players on this team (see: Corey Brewer). I think we should give Flynn at least a couple more months to improve before we write him off and curse his name.

He has been terrible, yes, but he is a player that has relied on his speed his entire basketball career and is coming off an injury that slows a player down. I'm not saying love the guy and praise him, but I think we forget he is a 2nd year player coming off an injury that really effects his game.

He's started to show flashes of improvement, he showed some flashes vs the Clippers, and started to look much improved vs the Raptors. He is slowly getting his speed back and more importantly his confidence.

I stuck by ma boy Brew through his struggles, and I don't see how being negative about Flynn helps. May as well cheer for him to improve and at worst become a solid trade chip, if not a decent pg.

In years where the wins are tough to come by, it's best to at least look for small victories in young players improving.

I agree with your post but could we stop making threads that end on ism? :D

I always advocate patience with young players and players returning from a significant injury. Flynn falls into both categories.

even if he regains his inner Flynn-ness, still don't like the guy, still needs to get traded and Rambis still needs to be fired. We should have known better, a 6ft PG who isn't know to be able to be a game controling guard and played in a zone but "has the tools" is asking for trouble. Someone needs to lock this boy in a room full of tapes of Jason Terry and Vinnie Johnson

There's no excuse for Kahn not keeping Flynn in the developmental league ... Period.

I cannot believe the Wolves franchise would display Flynn's woeful progress and not expect serious negativity. Being bad os one thing, but putting players that are unable to compete on the floor on a regular basis is disrespectful.

Nice read Uri, i was gonna put something similar up, (have i created an animal with the ism?). But i agree with what you say, i was so annoyed when i heard Minnesota fans booing him during his stuggles, i mean come on guys get serious, not even knick fans do that.

The one thing that is underestimated is his injury, i have personally have had the same injury and surgery as Jonny and know exactly what he is going through both physically and mentally, people and fans that dont have an intimate knowledge of the injury assume that because he is 'fit' to play he is able to be play like he did pre-surgery, that is just being plain ignorant.

It takes a while to get back from the injury and i wont go into the details, but you also have to factor in the lack of match practice, new team mates & next to no pre season.

So patience guys he will come good, just give it time, Brew and Al took a while to comeback from their acls its not uncommon for players to struggle when they come back, and he has shown improvement and its great to see.

Im not naive to believe he will still be in a wolves uniform next year, Rubio is the Golden chid of the team, but give the kid a break, he is a wolves player now so get behind him jst like the rest of the team, enough of the negativity.

its not even that he's not up to speed, he's making just bone-headed passes, his hip has nothingn to do with some of the idiotic tosses he makes; something like 7:5 A/T ratio. throw in he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with his shot and a refusal for more "rehab" in the DL and yes fans are going to be cranky.

Ignorant is believeing Flynn should be on an NBA court ... no ones questioning the injury and recovery ...

Anyone thinking he shouldn't have been sent back to developmental league is totally naive. If he was unwilling, then he should have been put on the shelf for the year.

The D-league isn't the solution. He sucks but needs to be playing in the NBA if you want to him to figure things out.

Should've played a couple more games there to regain confidence, though.

You act like people's opinions of some of the players (not as much Flynn, since he was a rookie and then injured) haven't been formed based on years of data.

Players get injured and come back stuntin all the time, so i hate when people say the player is injured, over half the nba is playing through an injury right now. Hip surgery is a little more serious than a jammed finger though, but like Jade said his hip has got nothing to do with his boneheadedness. Now I'm not going to go to the games and boo him or anything hopefully he keeps his head up keeps working hard and atleast can sort of figure it out. Definately should not be in the Dleague. but its hard to be positive about a guy who relies on his speed-- who just lost a step .

I was never impressed by Flynn even when he was a rookie. He always had a high turnover rate, he was always a horrible fit, and he's ridiculously undersized. There's just a certain point where we have to stop making excuses for our players.

urinsane- I think you are, in fact, NOT insane. I have been preaching patience with Flynn for a while now and have always been a Brewer supporter. I understand peoples' frustrations with these 2 at times, but when people that claim to be Wolves fans use downright hateful language about them I get offended and it turns me off from spending as much time on the board. Rubechat and Canishoopus provide enough of that type of talk, I would like to think people around here would be a bit less reactionary.

As I said, I understand the frustration, but I swear some people actually WANT Flynn and Brewer to fail miserably, which is just silly.

I'm glad to see that Flynn is getting his speed back, but that does not mean I should be optimistic. It is insulting those of us who watched him all last year to tell us we should give him the benefit of the doubt. My, and many others, problems with Flynn are two-fold:
-Boneheaded decisions, as every one else has mentioned, which is unacceptable in a point guard.
-Absolutely no damn defense! The guy is epically bad, even last year for a rookie. He does not even seem to try and constantly drifts off his man. Half assed stuff.

As an aside, I actually am a huge Brewer fan, and had faith in him when he was struggling early. However, It is bull donkey to label anyone who gets frustrated with a particular player as being fair weather fans or unreasonable. Sometime players suck and get under one's skin, whether they are on your team or not. It is perfectly valid to let both them, and more importantly team management, know that you want them gone and are not interested in paying to see them play.

I actually really like Flynn, but I think part of the reason for lots of the harassment toward him is we've seen this method before, and we know what the likely outcome is.

We in Minny are tired tired tired of the undersized combo guard who has all this potential to be great at both guard positions. (it's laughable how many times we've swung and missed with this method in the last 5-10 years....)

Put Flynn on a team that has great team defense and can make up for his deficiencies, while letting him drive'n'dish or run the P'n'R, and I wouldn't at all be surprised to see him put up numbers like 16 points, 7 assists, 2 steals, and decent 3's. That just isn't this team as presently kahnstructed though (see what I did there 8-) ).
