Trade Mike Conley. It's time

Post#1 » by Manoyie » Tue Jan 18, 2011 1:10 am

After watching Grevis Vasquez, a rookie point guard who is less athletic than Mike Conley, Clearly out perform him IMO, I say trade Conley before the deadline. Start Grevis because Conley clearly isn't the point guard for this team. FYI, I use to be a big supporter of Conley, but he's really dissappointed me.

I will jump of my roof face first if Vasquez ever becomes a starter for the Grizzlies

By no means am I against trading Conley, but the idea of Vasquez playing 30+ MPG makes me ill.

I'd much rather begin the long belated Mayo-PG experiment if we were to get rid of Conley.

Vasquez is showing now what he'll eventually be - an average to above average backup/spot starter. To think he'll be anything more (for a playoff caliber team) is insane.

I have to admit, I would not be against starting Vasquez. I believe Vasquez is under the same choke hold as Lowry was when he was in Memphis. You give this kid minutes with the starters, I think we will take off. It's definitely time for something new. I am tired of seeing Conley miss layup after layup. How many games could we have won if he had made them. Send Conley to the Blazers and let's try to get Fernandez. He would make a great tandem with Gasol. We only can get better from the stand point.

I don't understand why people think Greivis is something more than a mediocre backup point guard. He doesn't have the footspeed to defend NBA starters, or even point guard backups. Also, his handle is not great for a point guard. Right now he's functioning as a serviceable spot up shooter.

Is the consensus that we need a point guard other than Conley or that Greivis is better than Conley or has the potential to be?

For those of you who want Conley gone the precursor has to be Hollins getting fired, which could only happen if Chris Wallace was given more responsibility or the team was finally sold to an out of town owner.

Flashes - that is the word that has us in our current situation. Conley shown flashes of what he has potential to do and was rewarded although he has never had a consistent season from start to finish. Greivis has shown us flashes with his court vision and willingness to pass first but it is way to early to annoint him the chosen one.

I can't see Vasquez getting 30+ minutes. I'm a fan of Conley, I like him. Even though he's not consistent I reckon we should keep him. Unless we can find a deal that is really worth it.

Sooner or later we're gonna have to make a decision if he keeps being inconsistent. I think Grevis Vasques is the kind of point guard this team needs. Even tho he's a rookie he has shown alot of confidence and isn't afraid to call his own number at any point of the game. I have been a big fan of Conley also but I love the Grizzlies (team) more than one player. I see him being traded before the deadline or during the summer if he doesn't start playing aggressive on a consistent basis. He has to be a threat on the offensive end or the opposing point guard gets to rest on defense and save all his energy for on offense. Don't think that Grevis isn't gonna try to win that starting spot, and little by little Grevis is winning that battle in limited minutes as a rookie, maybe not in stats but how his plays the game with his energy and attact the defense mentallity. Grevis didn't win the Best Point Gaurd Award (instead of John Wall) by accident.

He won the Bob Cousy Award.
The Bob Cousy Award is given to the top collegiate male basketball point guard annually spanning across all divisions within the game by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The selection criteria emphasize leadership, team work, success, and fundamentals as being critical parts for the game of basketball as a point guard. Nominations are solicited from across the country from head coaches and the winner is selected by a Blue Ribbon Selection Committee made up of the biggest names in college basketball.

He also won the ACC player of the year award.

By the way Conley has stepped it up a little and has been more agressive. Hopefully he will keep it up and we'll have two good point guards, something we've never had. But even if Conley plays well, he could become expendable if Grevis turns out to be just as good. Who knows, but when Grevis rookie contract expires we'll have to decide who is best to keep him or Conley if we can't afford them both. I guess it would be a good thing, having two good ones to decide on. I like Grevis More.

If y'all don't want Grevis, I'd love for the Wizards to pick him up. Bring him back to the neighborhood!

I see potential in Conley, but maybe a change of scenario would do him good.

Return to Memphis Grizzlies
