OT - Signing Day

Post#1 » by Kerb Hohl » Wed Feb 2, 2011 4:43 am

Probably nothing exciting going on in our neck of the woods, though I don't know. What is the word on Brissett and his boys? That may be the only interesting UW storyline, though there are a ton of late signings every year it seems.

Might as well have a post here for some discussion.

For PackBuckGphMqt, uhhhh...well there's no Seantrell Henderson drama and less stars on your sheet...but at least most of them will be eligible and be solid players.

EDIT: Brissett is listed as "high" interest for Miami and UW. He also just visited Miami last week. Leads me to believe he'll go there.

Also, it looks like Brissett will announce on Friday night.

Brissett's mom went to the U and he is from Florida...would be shocked if he didn't go there.

If he has a hat scene at halftime, it will be one of the few times we see the UW hat on the table. I think Clay had one of those scenes and a few others did but it is crazy how much we are normally out of those scenes.

Latest on Brissett was last night from the JS.

Sorry for the sarcastic subject line, but the news on Dwyer High School recruits Jacoby Brissett and Curt Maggitt change every today.

So here's today's update:

- Maggitt was supposed to announce his decision on the "Respect Outdoors" TV show Thursday at 4:30 p.m. CT. That has now changed and that show will air on Feb. 10.

- The above news might not matter, though, as it appears as if Maggitt is likely headed to Florida. Tennessee seems like his No. 2 choice. Haven't read much about Wisconsin recently.

And now onto "As the Brissett Turns ..."

- When we last left you, Brissett was expected to make his decision at 8:30 a.m. CT Wednesday. Now word comes down that Brissett might make the announcement after his basketball team's game ... Friday. (It is his team's Senior Night)

- But don't take that as definite, as Brissett's football coach as well as his mom are trying to get him to announce it Wednesday.

- It appears as though Washington is out. Leaving Florida, Miami and Wisconsin.

- Throwing a possible curve to this is that Rutgers QB Tom Savage has been cleared to transfer to either Florida or Miami. Might that come into play as Brissett makes his decision? Hard to know, as he has been relatively quiet during this entire process.

- All six analysts as Rivals.com are now predicting Brissett to Miami. Of course, a couple of days ago it was four to Miami and two to Wisconsin. And last week it was five to Wisconsin and one to Florida State. What it all means is no one really knows, do they?

UPDATE: I seriously can't make this stuff up. The back-and-forth from people other than Brissett continues with this strange tweet (or at least strangely worded) from Pat Murphy, the sport director for a West Palm Beach TV station (and I quote it verbatim): "It looks like Jacoby has changed him mind again and leaving the state."

TUESDAY UPDATE: The news keeps on coming - It is now expected that Brissett will announce his decision at halftime of his basketball game Friday. Meanwhile, forget that Feb. 10 TV show for Maggitt, who might just sign tomorrow (again, not expecting him to head to Wisconsin).

Also, Murphy sent a new Tweet today - which contradicts his one from last night. "It's either Wisconsin or UM for Brissett! Any other school would be a big surprise." Although this does discount Florida, which also shouldn't be a shock with its QB situation.

Maggitt said tonight he's going to Tennessee.

Thanks for the shout out Grendon! Gophers don't have much going on because of the coaching change. Next year will be more interesting, might be able to get a better idea of Kill's recruiting ability then. But even then I don't think he'll be bringing in top 25 classes any time soon (or ever). If he can keep most of the top Minnesota talent then that would be a huge success, especially next year which is a great class for the state of Minnesota.

Outside of Ohio State, the Big Ten recruits like ****. That is the one of the few things I agree with Colin Cowherd about. SEC, Big XII, and Pac-10 get most of the big time recruits which is a big reason why they've had most of the top teams over the last ten years. Big Ten teams have to find the diamonds in the rough and "coach them up" to be competitive with the other conferences.

EDIT: Speaking of the whole hat thing, this is the only time I think Minnesota has had a kid choose a Gopher hat on tv. I'm actually pretty excited to see what he can do at QB. I think Brewster should have started him sooner, might have helped save his job, Weber was brutal.

How could you know, they were on the video for about .05 seconds?

Snow day here in Michigan, after a much ado about nothing snow fall overnight. Spending a day watching 18 yo kids I've never heard of, pick schools that I violently hate. Oh, signing day.

Nothing like seeing these high school kids announce which school they're going to with their kids sitting in their lap.

The #1 OLB said the Packers are his favorite NFL team. Maybe we can get him in a few years.

I've noticed that Gordon is the only guy that Rivals doesn't list as "Signed LOI." Is he having second thoughts given Iowa's more open RB spot now?

I was thinking that maybe the obscene amounts of snow dwon there had something to do with this. Everything I've read today indicates he's solid with Wisconsin.

They've been talking all day about how some decisions may be delayed because the players can't get to their schools to fax their decisions and how they can go on the internet and send an email with their LOI signed.

I heard they were allowing digital pictures of the signed letter intent instead of faxes.
