Who is this Michael Gilchrist guy? Another Durant or McGrady? I'm starting to hear more about him now.

He`s a very versatile guy, he can score, pass, dribble and defend...actually he can really really defend. Scouts praised his team USA performance saying he was very scottie pippen like   playing lock down defense on people and being very energized and very vocal around his teammates. He brings high energy and I`ve read several sites saying his biggest attribute is his competitiveness. He is out there to compete and give 100% every game.

Barnes is showing that it's foolish to write off prospects half way through their freshmen year.

Hope he keeps it up, gives us more options at the top.

Barnes is better than that.

it all depends on how high he is being mocked at to be honest.
Im trying to think of players who have stayed another year when they were consensus top 3.

I can't remember where Blake Griffin was projected after his Freshman season. I don't think it was high in the lotto but he showed signs of potential with 14 and 9 in his first year. He put up 23 and 14 in year two which catapulted him into the top pick and it seems to have worked out for him.

I can't think of many guys who were projected to go top-3 and pulled out. However, the past three projected top picks in the NFL draft returned to school for another season. Sam Bradford, Jake Locker and Andrew Luck all gave up the guaranteed money of being taken #1 overall to work on their game and get a degree. Barnes reminds me of those QB's quite a bit.

I don't doubt the possibility he could return to school, but at this time of year, no one is a lock to leave school either. Chris Bosh had a similar background to Barnes - smart kid, from a nice middle class family, two university educated and well-employed parents, enthralled by computer science, attending good university (Georgia Tech). He had every reason to go back for a second season except he was rated so highly he made the jump anyway. Even a few days before he declared the rumors were he was set on returning to GT. So background and intentions in January don't always mean squat in April. If Barnes can crawl his way to #1 in the rankings, he has nothing to gain in draft and financial terms and much to lose. A lot of NBA players finish their university degrees taking part-time and summer courses, so that's not a deal breaker.

He's a high schooler with a high ceiling, although there are two or three others who also rate very highly. But that's for the 2012 draft, not this one.

I like Gilchrist more than Irving to be honest with you. Not sure what Irving projects out to be but I don't think he's a John Wall/Rose/Paul elite type guard. Gilchrist sounds like he can dominate his position. This draft year is looking less and less impressive. Jared Sullinger is a very poor man's Griffin or a Kevin Love/Dawkins player in terms of talent and he's number 1??? Bargnani draft year again.

Maybe we suck one more year and get Gilchrist.

Gilchrist looked fabulous during the world juniors. he doesnt force anything, but when he turns it on...lights out.

Ive seen a few of his games, but instead of Pippen, he reminds me of a more talented and smarter young Iggy (not the guy player he is now).

Hell no. This draft may not be great but it's better than the 2006 draft. In 06 the top 10 was completely cluster **** with no definition. It's possible that if 4 or 5 different teams picked #1 they would've picked 4 or 5 different players first.

At least this draft has some structure at the top, prospects are slowly defining the top 5 or 6 picks.

Really CrazyCanuck? If that's the case a more talented Iggy would be an All-Star and that's what would we need. How would you compare him talent wise to Irving.

Didnt really get a chance to see a lot of Irving, but really loved Gilchrists game.

He was such a good defender; a complete player.

But Sullinger is No. 1 or close to the top. I really like Leonard though, he can be another Matricks. I guess if we can get a Perry Jones and let's say a Jan Vesely (anti-Bargs) if he sinks low enough then that's pretty athletic and can sure up wing defense. Vesely will Kirilenko/Thomasis role player. He can fit in well. Don't know what to do with Kleiza though but that's not an issue for now.

We dont need to worry about what to do with the current guys on our roster; Kleiza gets paid peanuts.

Are you a fan of Irving? You seem knowledgeable about this year's crop of talent.

Honestly, get off your high horse dude. I tried to tell you nicely but you don't get it. Who the F are you anyway?

How do you know if this guy has seen Gilchrist or Irving play? Ever heard of the internet.

I'm getting tired of this crap. It's a goddamn basketball forum so people are talking about prospects.

And going back in this thread many people could've ripped you over some of your comments because it doesn't seem like you know what the F you're talking about either.

Give it a rest and have a discussion. Ask people why they like certain prospects and I'm sure they'll tell you exactly why.

What doesn't make sense? Nobody said anything to complicated so I want to know what the problem is.

And what are your credentials? I hope you have some serious credentials for questioning other people. BTW, watching HS or NCAA games aren't credentials, everyone has a TV or an internet connection.
