Okay, so here are my initial thoughts ... we're crazy to overreact right now because we don't have any leverage with teams knowing we're hitting the panic button. Besides, this team can play at a much higher level and they clearly don't need to put too much stake in the regular season after making 3 straight finals. Having said that (I love that statement) ...

This team truly is built to run. Phil would never ever ever allow it. And it's been ingrained in Kobe's head that run-n-gun teams don't win. However, I'm not sure if teams could stop a lineup of Nash, Kobe, Odom and Gasol. But this is so much of a pipe dream with Phil at the helm--it's not even worth talking about.

I think the bigger issue is that Bynum expires in 2 years and I, for 1000, would not be willing to give that guy a long term contract after all the health issues. It's just not worth it. Which means at some point you have to consider parting ways.

Combine that Bynum logic with the fact that we have a trade exemption from the Sasha deal worth almost 6 million--and you can see that we have lots of options.

I do agree with one poster on this board who said that our advantage is height (twin tower) and he's right to some extent. But it might be possible that we don't have enough size to compete with a team like Boston who has Perkins, Shaq, KG and J O'Neal. Not to mention, traditionally the triangle works better when you have bigs that can shoot outside like Horace Grant, etc.

So with that in mind ... here are some trades I was thinking about ...

Lakers get:
Gerald Wallace
Boris Diaw
S. Diop

Charlotte gets:
Bynum
Walton
S. Blake

We get more athletic, keep the size and add another mid range shooting PF in Diaw. Not to mention, Gerald Wallace might actually be a better rebounder than Bynum!

----

Same trade with Lakers dealing Bynum, Walton and Blake ...

Lakers get:
Zach Randolph
OJ Mayo
Tony Allen

This trade doesn't really address our issue of size, but Randolph is a handful and could be much more imposing underneath than even Bynum. OJ Mayo and Tony Allen add a toughness that we've been lacking on the perimeter and both are actually good options for guards in a triangle offense because they're tall, play D and shoot well.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents ...

Beat the Rockets tonight and maybe we can all calm down a little! Myself included!

Would you guys consider...

Andrew Bynum
Shannon Brown
Devin Ebanks

for

Andrea Bargnani
Jose Calderon

Get a perfect fitting PG for the triangle with Calderon's efficient shooting and distributing. Add a big that can space the floor and stay healthy enough to play most of the games.

Are you kidding me ? Bynum for Calderon and Bargnani ? People complain about Gasol being soft and then we get Bargnani ? No way. Besides, Bynum has way too much talent to give him up for players like Bargnani/Calderon or Wallace/Diaw. Although his stock could be falling rapidly if he has another serious injury.

In my dreams we'll send him to Orlando for Dwight in 2 years.

I hope you guys find a way to pick up Kirk Hinrich. I think that's a defensive minded guard the Lakers need, and I think he'd thrive in the triangle/Kobe-ish offense.

Both solid suggestions. Except for trading Bynum for Dwight Howard. Not happening. Not ever.

I actually really like the Toronto trade idea. Makes a lot of sense. Would be nice to get one more big body though for the front line as Bargnani isn't the banger. But I actually think him and Gasol would play really well together. And more importantly ... I think Gasol gets invigorated from Calderon. He's clearly been effected on a personal level by the Sasha trade.

A couple things to keep in mind.

- Bynum has 1 year left and then a team option. We don't want to sign him to a long term contract.

- You can pretty much lock Yao Ming playing here next year so there's a big.

I've been wanting Kirk for a long time now. Last year I was really high on the fact that we might get him but nothing came about. We had Ammo's expiring but we needed at least another expiring contract. Had Sasha been an expiring last year I think we could of had Kirk Hinrich.

1) Yao won't play here next year.
2) A Bargnani/Gasol frontline would suck really bad.
3) I stated that the Bynum/Diwght thing is unrealistic

No to Bargnani. He even admitted that he's lazy on defense, which is something we need none of. Yao is unlikely, he'll end his career on some losing team that ends up overpaying for him and injuries will take him out. And "crimsonkb24" last summer is an indication that anything is possible. If LeBron, Wade, and Bosh can team up, then I don't see why Kobe, Pau, and Dwight cannot. If it's money you're griping about then we do what Miami did, sign ring chasers on the cheap.
As for a trade:
OJ + Allen for 2011 GS, NYK, 2012 CHI 2nd rounders, 2011 2nd rounder(Shannon trade), Artest and Blake. In this scenario we trade Brown to a team that he wouldn't veto and take their 2nd round pick. Ship that and the 3 other picks along with Artest and Blake to Memphis. We would be getting a future star and a defensive presence at the point along with the Boston proclaimed "Kobestopper" an upgrade over Brown. And Fisher finally moves to the bench.

OJ/Fisher
Kobe/Allen
Barnes/Ebanks/Walton
Gasol/Smith
Bynum/Ratliff

Brand and Iguodala to LA?

Post#1329 » by BrooklynZoo23 » Wed Feb 2, 2011 10:05 pm

From my sources, I have been told Thorn is actively seeking a trade with LA at this moment. The trade should look something like this-

La Trades: Ron Artest, Andrew Bynum, Derek Fisher, and Theo Ratliff
La Receives: Andre Iguodala, Elton Brand, and Lou Williams

Phi Trades: Andre Iguodala, Elton Brand, and Lou Williams
Phi Receives: Ron Artest, Andrew Bynum, Derek Fisher, and Theo Ratliff

There is no link as I have inside sources.

Please do not lock this and give me a chance here. I will try my best to provide you with what I could scramble.

Thanks..

Bargnani and Calderon would probably make the Laker offense unstoppable. Calderon shoots excellent %'s from the field and the three, and he has one of the best assist-to-turnover ratios in the league, plus he's one of Pau's best friends which would be a good thing. Bargnani would leave more than enough room for Pau to operate in the post while Bargnani can work off the dribble and shoot from basically anywhere on the floor - similar to the Bosh/Bargnani combo. I agree, you would have to get a defensive player down low that can be brought in for situational play, but it could work... Bargnani can still block some shots and I think Jackson would get the best out of him... he's spoiled in Toronto, we don't have enough good players to play over him, so he plays more than he really should. With Odom coming off the bench, it'll be hard for any team in the league to stop that front court.

As per Dwight, I very highly doubt that's going to happen. Also, Bynum probably won't be resigned by LA after his contracts done, especially if others are looking to give him more money than LA could give him, or he goes down with another big injury (Jackson did say that he might have to be limited, in terms of minutes, for the rest of his career). It wouldn't be such a bad idea to trade him for value - there's always the risk of him going down again when you guys need him most (doesn't he have a bone bruise in his knee right now?). Anddd I also doubt that Brown and Artest would be able to get you guys Mayo... I mean, Artest plays the same position as Gay, and he's pretty much on the decline in his career with a few more years still on his contract, and I don't think Brown has value at the same level as Mayo, while the picks are obviously very high up there - other teams would be able to easily provide a far better offer for Mayo than that.

This cannot possibly work out in the slightest bit. Salaries don't work out. And I'm sure LA wants to trade their C and a backup C for some smalls.

Only person who I would trade Bynum for is Josh Smith in the ATL...

Fish-or whoever
Kobe
Artest
Gasol
Smith

You see how good Gasol is when he has more space to play with. Plus Bynum is in his 5th year and has not progressed as much credit some guys give him.

dub seriously, Josh Smith? Horford yeah possibly, but Smith? He's horrible as a PF, doesn't space the floor at all and is under sized, exactly what we don't need.

Iggy would be a decent addition for sure, his contract sucks but he's young and athletic, good defender and rebounder, and I think he would shoot ok in our system where he isn't the focus to create. Brand.. eh wouldn't mind him but giving up Bynum or Pau? Dunno about that.

Would be nice if we could get Iggy without moving Bynum, Artest + Rooks, Picks, and trade exception?
I think that has about 0.1% chance of happening

Smith is around the same size as Odom. 6'9 240...He's shooting 46% from the field and with Gasol and Kobe on the floor he's going to get some more open shots. He's 1 thing that the Lakers are lacking. He's super athletic. I'm just putting stuff out. This team right now as it is will not beat the Celtics or the Heat in the Finals. I don't think they can get by Dallas right now honestly.

Here's a thought...the warriors were rumored to be trying to trade steph curry. theyre also unhappy with biedrins and his lengthy contract. so how bout...

Steph Curry, Andris Biedrins, Dorrel Wright, and Dan Gadzuric,

for

Andrew Bynum, Steve Blake, Ron Artest, 1st round pick

Lakers get the pg of the future, a great shooter, defender and awesome triangle piece. (he would also be the best 3 pt shooter on the team, and the star of the team once kobe's gone) They also get dorrel wright, another knock down shooter who can split the sf duties with barnes. And lastly, biedrins, who could still give the lakers some of that length down in the pain. Gadz is a throw in for salry reasons.

Warriors get Bynum, and their core for the future, in ellis, Udoh, Lee, and Bynum. They get a serviceable pg in blake who can play off the ball with monta, and artest, who, is the wild card here.

I used to think giving up bynum wasnt an option, but i realized we need more of a kick in the pg, sf position. A laker lineup , and 9 moan rotation of...

curry/fisher
kobe/shannon brown
Wright/barnes/
Gasol/Odom
Biedrins/Odom

seems pretty dope. I also think that ridding themselevs of biedrins, getting their center of the future and a 1st round pick is a pretty good deal for the warriors.

Thought?

You bring up some good points. I've been skeptical about Howard ending up here, but as I said before anything is possible. If Dwight makes it known that he wants to be a Laker and only a Laker, then Orlando is left with no choice other than to sign and trade with us. And I agree Bynum will not be a Laker after his contract is up. If we get Howard, Bynum will be sent to Orlando on a team option expiring contract which is good for them, they can keep him and go on with Bynum being a part of their future, or simply trade him for a good draft pick as I'm sure some team will be suckered into giving him a chance. As for the Memphis trade, that's the thing that puzzles me. A team like Chicago who has inquired about the possibility of trading for Mayo, who has the resources to trade for the low valued OJ just simply hasn't. If that offer was the only one given for Mayo, Mayo and Allen would end up Lakers. Calderon would thrive in the tri offense, but it all depends on Bargnani. If Bargnani would indeed step it up like you say, then Mitch should probably give it some though. But there's no way of knowing that. I'm going by what came out of Bargnani's mouth, of course his first couple games he'd step his play up, but as he'd get settled into his role that lazy mentality would probably rear its head again. Bargnani's no defense and leaving Pau on his own ensures that we wont be going back to the finals any time soon.
