Why is Felton off the limits? He sucks.

because we have no other starting pg. if one comes back in a trade then maybe he goes too.

If Rodrique Beaubois was a Knick he'd be considered one of the most overrated young players in the NBA (see Anthony Randolph). That he's "playing" (technically he's not) for a top team and not in NY changes that how? And yet the Legend of Beaubois keeps going, no thanks to a owner that obviously knows how to sell his stuff (that's how he made money...getting people to buy overpriced things that realistically they can get elsewhere for MUCH cheaper).

But once again, I'll say this, Denver would be hurting themselve more than either Melo or the Knicks if they shortchange themselves out of spite. Melo will eventually get what he wants (either by becoming a FA or re-upping with Dallas in this case). NY will still have capspace and flexibility to continue to improve. Denver? Not so much.

Regular BSPN hype. There is always a young guy on a good team who does not get minutes or gets sporadic minutes who will be hyped. Sad thing is GMs sometimes buy into this hype. Think JJ Hickson. Cleveland rejected the Amare deal last year because Phoenix asked for him. BSPN writers were praising the GM for going after Jamison instead.

Gallo may be playing his way outta NY by actually playing well. Don't want to see him go, but if he goes and we keep Chandler and Fields, can't be mad at that.

I would include Felton if they wanted him and if we get back Billups. Even though Billups is old, he is still an effective pg. Plus they both have 1 year left on their contract allowing up to make a run at a top pg next year.

Mark Cuban: "I'd rent a Melo"

I think the point of the Beaubois + Haywood + Butler trade that I talked about recently is that whatever trade we offer has to be better than that. Plus they could take Harrington's contract on top of that.

I'm not saying we can't beat that offer - just that we need to be realistic about some of the low ball offers I've heard.

but really that's just beaubois. taking haywood's contract is not great for denver either. how does ar plus gallo or chandler not beat that.

1. Beaubois is a good prospect.
2. Denver has a PG they are ready to promote to starter so Beaubois just gives them a new back up so they can trade Chauncey.

It's not that Beaubois is better than our guys just that he might be a better fit for them.

So they are going to trade Melo for their future backup pg instead of trading him for Gallo or Chandler who actually would cover the small forward position that Melo would leave vacated? Is that why Beaubois is a better fit?

If they get Gallo or Chandler can they trade Billups? With Chandler they'll have to pay him to keep him this Summer. They'd almost be better off doing the trade I mentioned and then letting Nene opt out and sign Chandler this Summer as a FA. If we going to sign Melo, Chandler is going somewhere else.

And the word has been they are not interested in Gallo. And honestly how happy would Gallo be in Denver?

It's about the savings. If they get Beaubois they can dump Billups. If they get Haywood they won't have to overpay Nene this Summer. Kenyon Martin is in the final year. So they could accomplish in a few months what took us two years.

how is haywood a substitute for nene ? sorry but haywood's contract is a negative not a positive for denver.

I disagree with that. But if Denver said give us Chandler not Haywood - do you think Dallas would say no?

They still have Haywood +

Melo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chandler

Otherwise, why don't we have 14 threads on signing Tyson Chandler this Summer?

lets say you're right, is denver going to resign chandler ? no. so all they're getting is beubois. any picks they might give would be horrible. is it really a deal we can't beat ?

I think we can beat it. But it's kind of like our trades for the last few years. We were just trading to clear out cap space. Because Dallas can send expiring contracts + take back Harrington's contract that's a big deal. Beaubois is just a backup but it allows them to trade Chauncey who would be a good pick up for someone like the Lakers. So maybe they can do a three way trade where Lakers trade Artest + Shannon Brown to a third team for an expiring contract. Then they let JR Smith expire, Kenyon Martin expire and Nene is expected to opt out. All of a sudden Denver is down to like 10 million in obligations for next year which allows them to resign guys they like i.e. Affalo and go after a free agent like Jeff Green or Wilson Chandler. If they get picks from Dallas or LA (or whoever they trade Chauncey to) then all the better.

+ you add the premium of not doing a deal with NY.

And for Dallas even if they can't resign Melo this Summer they can still extend and trade him to NY for whatever we were prepared to offer Denver i.e. Wilson + AR. Plus they'll make a serious run with Dirk + Melo and JKidd facilitating. A much better run than they could with the current set up.

"I can't talk about other teams' players, but I'm always trying to be opportunistic," Cuban said. "If someone wanted to offer me a perennial All-Star for a second-round pick, I'm going to say yes."

No worries.

we have expiring contracts and can take back harrington too. they have no advantage there. it's beaubois, that's it. that's all they have and that's all we have to beat.

Mark Cuban worries me. If the Mavs trade for Melo I'm pretty sure Cuban would be able to convince Melo to sign an extension.
