Good for Sitton, but i don't think he's really even close to being the best offensive lineman in the NFL. For any guard to be the best lineman in the game, that guy IMO has be flat out dominant like say a Larry Allen in his prime. Hell, Chad Clifton on Sitton's own team is probably more important to us than Sitton is.

I can see why that would make Sitton feel good, but how would these guys who vote even know?

Offensive line play, especially at guard or center is something that almost has to be evaluated by watching film or taping games where you can focus solely on those interior guys. It's pretty damn hard to just sit and watch a game and notice how well or poorly each guy inside is playing.

To get a really honest evaluation of all the lineman in the league, IMO voters would pretty much have to do what McGinn does after each Packer game by rewatching the game and evaluating how each guy has done, especially on the lines. Just watching 2-3 games on TV each Sunday/Monday and then voting who the best lineman is would strike me as forcing voters to mainly just guess who among the better lineman in the NFL should win this award.

Wow. I don't agree with that last part at all. Sitton is 10 times the run blocker that Clifton is and he's done a great job keeping A-Rodge upright. Whether or not he is the best O-lineman in the Nfl is open for debate. To be honest, it's always really hard to tell how good a lineman is until they get a reputation. Sitton doesn't have a national reputation yet due to the fact that he's still pretty young, but that doesn't mean he isn't one of the best out there. You almost have to wait until after the season when scouts and coaches start going over game tape to find out who the best O-lineman were.

Packers Offensive line is nothing special. I would rank them avg at best. Thier more of a pass blocking line and not the best at run blocking.

I'm not saying that Sitton isn't a very good lineman or even our best overall lineman because he is on both fronts.

That said, it doesn't mean he's our most important lineman. If say in the Super Bowl on Sunday i was the Packers coach and could only play one of Sitton or Clifton, i'd play Clifton because i think having Lang in there to try and block Harrison all game could cause us more trouble than whoever had to replace Sitton. As good as Sitton is, that LT position is so incredibly important for a passing game to be able to function properly, especially if a defense has an elite pass rusher coming off the edge on the quarterbacks blind side.

Look what happened when Clifton went out vs the Bears in the NFC title game. Peppers beat Lang a few times and McCarthy mentioned that it forced him to change the game plan somewhat until Clifton came back. Like i said earlier, i agree that Sitton is a damn good all around guard and one of the best guard's in all of the NFL, but there is a reason left tackles make so much more than guards do. A struggling LT can destroy an offensive game plan like no other player on an offense except a bad QB.

I think Pickett said the same thing about Sitton as far as going against OL in practice throughout his career.

I get what your saying but I guess that's the difference between an MVP and a strictly performance based award. Take baseball for instance. The MVP usually goes to a player on a good team while the Cy Young, which is a performance based award goes to the best pitcher regardless of their team's performance, like King Felix.

Technically if we are going by the importance of the position a LT would win every year.
