I'm really not sure the habs could get something better for huet, and they really wanted to get rid of him so there was no controversy surrounding price

man the thrashers got hosed though

I don't know. Erick Christensen has all the tools to become a good 2nd line center.

Angelo Esposito could become a very good player as well plus they get a 1st round pick next season.

I'm surprised they accepted it with Armstrong. Armstrong is a UFA in the offseason and is very good friends with Sid. He could easily sign back with the Pens.

Agreed and do you think Pittsburgh is going to throw crazy money out at Hossa, Crosby, Malkin, Malone and Flurey? Thats too much talent right there and wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much money longterm. Pens can't afford to keep 'em all unless they prorate somebody contract.

Pens I think overpaied for Hossa.

Montreal were the big losers this deadline. They gave up there #1 goalie for a second round pick. To put this in perspective, the Leafs got a 2nd rounder and a 5th rounder for Hall Gill.

Never said he was amazing he's a good player. Do you think Osgood is great? No he's a good player for the Wings system watch how good Lidstrom will make Stuart or even pair him with Rafalski/Chelios or Kronwall.

whats Lidstrom going to do when Staurt coughs the puck up in his own zone or takes bone headed penalties? He was horrible in Boston and terrible in Los Angelas.

My thoughts:

The Leafs came out winners, getting a 2nd rounder for Gill...a 3rd rounder for Kilger...and a 5th rounder for Belak. We traded away spare parts in exchange for somewhat useful picks. I'm satisfied.

Montreal came away as the biggest losers at the deadline. If they were making a strong push in the playoffs, they're going to need an experienced goaltender to steal them games. They should have kept the Huet deal dependant on the Hossa/Jokinen/whoever else proposals, and pulled the trigger once one of the deals were actually agreed upon. It may be a trade for the future, but if they want to stand any chance in the playoffs, they would've recieved use out of Huet. They're really putting a ton of pressure on both Halak and Price now.

Pittsburgh won the trade with Atlanta talent wise. Hossa is an excellent player, and will absolutely benefit from having players like Crosby and Malkin around him. Hossa will excel with a playmaking center in Crosby next to him, and not having to rely on a player like Kovalchuk to feed him the puck. Here's the thing though, can Pittsburgh afford him this summer? If so, at what cost? We'll see within the next year or so (assuming Hossa does re-sign). If they're not re-signing Hossa, they just gave away quite a bit for a rental player. Still, the question mark surrounding that team heading into the playoffs will be goaltending. If they can't get reliable goaltending from Conklin/Fleury, it doesn't matter who they trade for...it won't make a difference.

I liked the Dallas/TBay trade for both sides. They both got what they wanted, and it seems like a fair deal for the two of them.

I disagee with you 100% here Crowned. It won't be goaltending that will be the issue, it will be defense and the PK. That's what lost it for them last year in the playoffs. Fleury will come back strong.

Ryan Malone should not make more than 3 million a season. He's only going to be a 25-30 goal scorer and 50-60 point guy at most.

Fleury should have taken his 3.5 million last season cause he should only get a 3 yr-9/10 million contract as well.

You have Sydor, Gill and Roberts being off the books in the next fews years so that frees up 7 million right there. Plus, I could see Gonchar being traded in the offseason to clear up his 5 million.

I'm happy with what the Blackhawks did today. Although they traded away Ruutu they got a great young player in Andrew Ladd for him. One of the few times I am happy about a Blackhawks trade.

I'm a Caps fan but I have no idea about the players we got. Did they make some good deals? I'm aware they are about 6 pts behind the Hurricanes, but is this enough to push them into the playoffs?

They did extremely well today.

Huet is a top end starter in this league, and acquiring a top goaltender without giving up a first round draft choice is rare. They absolutely stole Huet from the Habs. He'll be your starter in Washington for quite some time.

Matt Cooke will give you an excellent checking forward. While Pettinger is the much better scorer, Cooke will provide the little things that Pettinger didn't. I'd say the trade was in Vancouver's favour, but rather insignificantly. They're different players that bring different things to a team.

Fedorov isn't quite the player he used to be, but still rather effective at distributing the puck. Some of your premiere scorers will definitely benefit from having Sergei around, especially paired with the likes of Nylander (if he can come back in time for the playoffs) and Backstrom. Ruth is a pretty decent prospect, and was recently selected in the 2nd round. With that said, Washington has pretty good depth prospect wise and could afford trading away a younger player for a veteran.

Gill will provide an upgrade on the PK. I'm still not confident in Conklin and Fleury to carry the load throughout the playoffs.
