Kinda expected I think.

As far as punting? Nah. I think with Petitte out of the way, whatever money they were allotting for him probably will now be available for absorbing a big contract or acquiring a starter another team is looking to move due to contract size.

From WT, would the Rays trade Shields to NY? Would NY be interested and what would it take (in terms of prospects) to get him from the Rays? Yanks and Rays has a history of being able to work with each other in the past (before the Rays were a top team) but with the Rays competing against the Yanks now would they consider improving their rival?

The Rays apparently are in need of cutting about $20 million from their team salary for this upcoming season and Shields did real well against them in the playoffs, has elite change-up and now mixes his pitches real well and is still on the good side of 30.

What prospects (what Tampa is apparently looking for in a trade) would you be willing to give up to get him?

PS: here's shields taking a shot at a Red Sox player lol so he should fit in well.

It was fairly obvious that Pettite was retiring. I wish him the best.

The Rays aren't going to trade Shields to a divisional rival unless it's a completely lopsided deal. A more realistic trade target would be someone like Zambrano.

Yeah I think Zambrano is definitely more realistic.

Sucks about Andy making it official, but I suppose it was inevitable. Hoping the Yankees can get back to winning even without Andy P.

Big game James?

I don't want anything from Tampa. Sure Price is ok but I don't see why every season why the Yankees have to spend their guts out on FAs. Are we that eager to find the next Pavano?
