The people that voted probably had an idea of what the best player in the league should play like either at LT, G, C, or RT and Sitton was the guy that fit the perfect mold the best. In that light, I don't think it is that hard to understand.

I can see why that would make Sitton feel good, but how would these guys who vote even know?

Offensive line play, especially at guard or center is something that almost has to be evaluated by watching film or taping games where you can focus solely on those interior guys. It's pretty damn hard to just sit and watch a game and notice how well or poorly each guy inside is playing.

To get a really honest evaluation of all the lineman in the league, IMO voters would pretty much have to do what McGinn does after each Packer game by rewatching the game and evaluating how each guy has done, especially on the lines. Just watching 2-3 games on TV each Sunday/Monday and then voting who the best lineman is would strike me as forcing voters to mainly just guess who among the better lineman in the NFL should win this award.

You don't think former NFL OL focus on the OL when watching the game? I think I can make a pretty solid evaluation of OL while watching on TV by just focusing on specific players. In fact, it really isn't that hard to focus on the entire OL as a whole. After a short period it isn't hard to tell who is playing well and who is having problems. I do this all the time when watching NCAA football. Watching the QB drop back is boring. I would think that people watching the Packers in this way would notice Sitton very quickly, especially if he is going up against a great DT that game. If they focus on him specifically all game, they see a clinic.

Hey, i'm not trying to bash Sitton, he's one of the best guards in the NFL, but i just don't buy that he's the best offensive lineman in the league.

If say this was voted on by scouts who break down game film of all teams in the NFL instead of being voted on by former lineman who might watch a couple of games each week, i don't think Sitton would have won and may not have even finished in the top 5.

I created the title with a good measure of sarcasm. Sitton has been awesome, but I don't believe he's the best offensive lineman in the game.

But I think you can separate who had the best season and who's the best in the league. I don't spend my time watching the offensive linemen for every team in the league. I rarely focus on our own. But it's possible that Sitton had what considered the best season of an offensive lineman in the league. How you could determine that is beyond me, but a vote by former NFL offensive lineman is a good place to start.

Would I rather have an elite left tackle like Thomas or Long? Of course. Who wouldn't? But it's possible that someone like Pouncey or Sitton actually had a better year.
